Plot Analysis
Plot Analysis
For your plot analysis, choose ONE of the three topics listed below:
1. Is Charlotte Perkins Gillman’s The Yellow Wallpaper a disturbing look at a woman’s descent into madness or is it an affirmation of a woman’s need for independence?
2. In Poe’s The Cask of Amontillado, who pays the ultimate price for his actions, Fortunato or Montresor, the narrator?
3. James Joyce creates a bleak picture of life in 19th century Ireland in Araby. Is his story a hopeless reminder of a people forever trapped by circumstance or is it a poignant look at a boy’s loss of innocence?
Remember, a Plot Analysis examines the conflict(s) found in the plot and its developments. A listing of the plot points, not a detailed plot summary, may be an appropriate way to justify a statement, but a discussion of the conflict and plot development and its overall conclusion may be better. Look for central symbols, ironies, or characters that embody the plot and its ultimate purpose. Be sure to check every statement for relevance.
