All of the above are names used to identify the various generations currently in the workforce. Some of the titles above refer to the same generation of people or overlapping age segments. There has been much discussion about the differences between the various generations.

Regardless of if you are part of the Millennial generation, or one of the other generations listed above, you will be working with Millennials in the workplace, and knowing more about the people you work with is helpful.

I am part of Generation X, and as we entered the workforce, we were considered to be the most negative, cynical, skeptical generation ever (yeah, we started Goth, and Grunge). Imagine what our parents and grandparents thought. On the positive side, we could be independent, ambitious, flexible and family centric. It is certain that just as every generation before us, we had an impact that helped to shape the workplace of today.

For Assignment 5, in your own words please write a one to two page paper that investigates the generalizations made about the Millennial Generation. Identify the prevailing thoughts within the research on Millennials in the workplace. Yes, I am asking that you conduct research beyond your textbook (look for information online, go to the library, etc…). Be sure to cite your sources.

Give your opinions.

Identify stereotypes about the millennial generation and give your opinions about their accuracy and their falsehoods. Share your own experiences if you have them.

What impact do you think the millennial generation will have on the workplace?

Do you think that current managers, leaders and organizations will have to adjust for millennials in the workplace? If so, How?
