Sample Write-Up

Mr. Richards was interested in determining how well experience seeking and social desirability as a set can explain venturesomness. For this, he conducted a standard regression analysis. Table 1 shows the mean, standard deviation and correlation between the variables. Correlation coefficients are moderately large at 0.72 between venturesomeness and experience seeking and 0.77 between venturesomness and social desirability. Correlation between experience seeking and desiability is moderate at 0.52. All coefficients are significant at α=0.01.

The result of the regression analysis is reported in Table 2. The linear combination of experience seeking and social desirability is statistically significant

(F(2,17)=23.70, p≤0.001) and explains about 74% (R=0.86) of the variance in venturesomeness. Both experience seeking (p≤0.01) and social desirability (p≤0.001) are statistically significant. Of the two predictors, social desirability appears to be the more important predictor (β=0.55). The regression analysis result indicates that higher scores in venturesomeness are associated with higher scores in experience seeking and social desirability suggesting perhaps that individuals who are adventurous (venturesome) are more likely to be individuals who also seek experience and desire social approvals.
