Basic Speech Outline

image1.pngI. General Goal- I want to inform my audience on a dictator as worse as Adolf Hitler.

II. Specific Goal- I want to inform my audience on a man who is not discussed much on history but killed over 10 million people. Leopold II of Belgium.

III. Thesis Statement- To find out how wicked Leopold II of Belgium was and why everyone thinking of Hitler the name of Leopold too should come along as among the worst people to live.

Introduction of Speech

I. Attention Device Opener- Would you expect a person as bad as Adolf Hitler not to be known and remembered by many people, a person who caused the death of more than half the population of a country, people more than 10 million?

II. Listener relevance link- The question creates a lot of havoc and mind-blowing aspects trying to find out the person as bad as Adolf Hitler. He was Leopold II king of Belgium.

III. Speaker credibility- The name makes sense now because his statutes had recently made headlines on media as protestors on Black Lives Matter wanted to smash it down and destroy it.

IV. Thesis Statement- To find out how wicked Leopold II of Belgium was and why everyone thinking of Hitler the name of Leopold too should come along as among the worst people to live.

Body of Speech

I. First Main Point – History of how he earned his power in Congo free state.

He convinced America and European nations theta he wanted the best for the state and made them grant the sate to him as his property.

He came as an explorer and to spread Christianity

He signed treaties with local chiefs for self interest

II. Second Main Point – The problems set in. He gets greed for resources and uses forced labor.

He fetched rubber and ivory

He held women and children hostage for husbands to find rubber for them.

Men would walk for weeks and days to fetch rubber as trees dried in the vines

III. Third Main Point – Situation worsens. He kills rebels and many innocent people and cut their hands.

Black soldiers would show how they used bullets by reporting with dead person hands

At times missed bullets and others used in gaming could be compensated by cutting hands of live humans.

Millions of people were killed and others shopped legs and hands.

Half the population had been killed between 1880 and 1920, an estimate of more than 10 million people

Conclusion of Speech

I. Restatement of thesis- Leopold II of Belgium caused the Congolese people lots of chaos individually

II. Review of Main Points - He was in deed as bad as the worst among the worst.

III. Clincher - I urge everyone to never miss a day in history as that will help preserve the community against Leopold like minds of modern days.
