research on gender assignment
Double-spaced, 1-inch margin, 3-5 pages
This is a research assignment that invites you to take a closer look at a topic related to gender that is of interest to you.
Step 1: Select a topic and formulate a research question • Pick a topic on gender from any course readings and materials, which
includes textbook chapters, videos and articles. Topics include, but are not limited to gender &: sexuality, social class, race, inequality, institutions, social movements, etc…
• Formulate a research question that will help you focus your research around your topic.
• Once you have picked a topic and formulate a research question, feel free to email me to confirm if this topic is appropriate.
Step 2: Literature Review Add two more articles by doing a literature search using the MC library system. The articles should be peer-reviewed academic journal articles. Your list of “works cited” must include a reading/video from the course and two peer reviewed journal articles. In total you need at least three sources. Feel free to use more, both from the course and/or articles of your choice.
Step 3: Answer the Research Question
Make a clear argument as you write a response to your research question. Just collecting information is not enough. Develop your own argument and take a position. To defend your argument, you need to support your argument solidly by using literature from step 2. Your argument is what matters in this paper. Use the literature to support your argument. You are more than welcome to use four or more articles (again, one course reading and two academic journal articles are the minimum requirement). Remember that it takes time to narrow down your argument and select good articles to support it. You will learn so much by doing it. Enjoy the process! Nothing is like genuine intellectual exploration! If you want to discuss your topic and literature selection, feel free to contact
me.
Step 4: Reflection Component
At the end of the assignment, provide a brief (one or two paragraphs) reflection on why you chose the topic, how the research and writing process was, and how the experience of research and writing on the topic affected your perspectives on the world and on yourself. What skills you have learned through working on this paper and how the skills are related to your academic and career goals?
Please include works cited
