Introductory paragraph

As I look at the state of present-day America, I’m completely heartbroken by what I see. We’ve lost our way. We’ve lost our moral standing, and our ethical compass has been significantly compromised. The issue at hand is Marginalization and Minorities. I chose this topic to express the way this marginalization occurs, covertly, in current society versus its more overt expressions in previous times. I think this is a relevant topic, considering what our country is facing at present- by way of racial tensions and racial discord previously not seen since the Civil Rights era. My intention in writing this research paper is to give introspect and spread awareness, as well as to create healthy dialogue about the issues. I am convinced that unless these underlying issues are address, we as a nation, will not be able to truly move forward and tap into the wealth of knowledge, life experience, and wisdom that is interwoven into the fabric of our country by way of our diverse population.

Thesis Statement

Regardless of how we would like to see our country as a tolerant, open, receptive society- the fact of the matter is that there are numerous injustices against minorities that have been interwoven into the make-up of our culture, and without confrontation and reform- we stand to move backwards rather than forwards.
