Introduction
In basic terms, global citizenship can be termed as the critic idea of every individual into acquiring rights and civic roles that are associated with being an active participant as well as a member of the World. This can be in conjunction with the entire world philosophy and sensibilities that eliminates the citizen being just a member of a respective country or place. The general perception of being a global citizen is transcending a person’s identity in geographical and political borders. (Luis, 2010) Therefore, the rights and responsibilities of the global citizen are extracted from the membership in the respective broader class of humanity. The thesis of this discussion will exclusive be analyzing various aspects under the core subject of importance of becoming a global citizen. Such aspects may include preparing the globalization at crossroads which may exhibit other inner aspects such as klepto-capitalism and market liberation existing in various countries such as Russia, China, Thailand and Venezuela hence exhibiting their influx of economy and the waving curve of their economic stability since 20th century. This study will enhance us characterize the importance of global citizenship at a personal development as well as community development. (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013)
To start with, after a thorough review of the video clip on globalization at crossroads, an individual would be unable to speculate the comparison on globalism and globalization as they seem to be interrelating in the video watched. Nevertheless, there is a key difference between globalism and globalization. (Jacobs & Monfils, 2010) At a deeper analysis of the video clip and the prospective article, it can be vividly seen and concluded that globalism in the video and as well the article aim at discussing and describing exclusively a world that is based on the network of connections that span multi continental distances in a wider coverage. On the other hand, globalization attempts to describe the increase or decline in the extent of globalism in a world speculative as well as the multi continental distances. In a nutshell, globalism schedules causal rudimentary network whilst globalization seeks the energetic dwindling of distance on a bulky measure and in terms of economic growth. (Jacobs & Monfils, 2010)
After watching the video globalization and reading the article by the two authors, it is prevalent that there is need to be a global citizen since it has many benefits and advantages on the matters regarding the advanced technology in the world. This will as well link to their application to my personal, academic and professional goals that I am required to approach and fulfill in my life cycle. (Jacobs & Monfils, 2010) In its core demand, technology enables many of the individuals in being in touch with their pals, relatives as well as business partner through emails and text messages. In regards, technology is the crucial element to communication and foundation of majority of our information technology that might be advantageous in meeting my life time goals. Henceforth, most of the information we acquire comes from web search in the internet hence calling for technology. In work places, searching in the internet helps learn different cultures in the social works. (Jacobs & Monfils, 2010)
Disagreements between the theorists
In analyzing the disagreements between the two theorists in the article, it is prevalent that there are varying descriptions of global citizenship despite all the definitions being interchangeably circumlocution. Reysen & Katzarska-Miller (2013) illustrates that, “The confusion regarding global citizenship is exacerbated as theorists draw from the diverse disciplines and perspectives for instance political, theological, development and educational perspectives to define the construct (pp. 859).” One logician strongly trusts various characters stresses global citizenship whereas several persons sense absenteeism of confident characters connected to the basically notion. Therefore, my outline of the global citizenship may involve persons that reflect and play universally and that get into contemplation to ethnic diverseness and the part it has in in global citizenship.
From this article by Reysen & Katzarska-Miller (2013), there are several outcomes of the articles and its discussion on the model of global citizenship. These outcomes may include intergroup empathy, valuing diversity, social justice, environment sustainability, intergroup helping and the level of responsibility. In this discussion, there is need to analyze two of the six outcomes.
Valuing Diversity
From the article by the two authors, it is evident that Dower and Golmohand describe valuing diversity as the attention and indebtedness for the sundry beliefs of the biosphere. In the basics of different races, ethnicities and religions within the entire world, they all constitute the diversity emphasized by Dower and Golmohand. (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2010) Nevertheless, the diversity can also be characterized by how we grip the variances between the affiliations and capture the value of the diverseness.
Social Justice
From the article, Dower and Heater explains social justice as the attitude relating human rights and equitable and fair treatment of every individual in the entire world. (Reysen & Katzarska, 2013) Basically, when I evaluate about the critics and importance of social justice, I figure out the diversity and perseverance, respect and understanding that lands into the play. All individuals should be ranked as equal and receive an equal treatment. This is despite the race, ethnicity and religion that each society has on their respective set of moral, beliefs and values.
General Education Courses Influence
General education course can be as well enhance the students into becoming a global citizen. These two courses include Introduction to Ethics and World Religions. They aid in and impact on my development in attaining global citizenship. They enhanced me in valuing diversity and enhance intergroup empathy. (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013) Introduction to Ethics helps me gain the values, right and wrong behaviors as well as ethically positions and issues. World Religions help me to comprehend the beliefs across the world. This enhance my capability to understand persons and their way of being.
Conclusion
In this discussion, I have evaluated how actuality of a global citizen in the world of innovative technology could be profitable to the achievement of my personal, academic and professional goals. I have besides analyzed the various conflicting perspectives and sentiments about connotation of global citizenship. In addition, I have as well discussed the need and reputation of valuing diversity and responsibility to item. (Luis, 2010) I have exhibited my personal experiences I have had in valuing diversity and responsibility. I have also conversed about the association between two general education classes which I have completed and how they aided me in my understanding of global citizenship. Nevertheless, every topic discussed is an essential in global citizenship development.
