LET’S PLAY SIMSOC

In the game SIMSOC, participants build a functioning society. The game takes approximately 15 hours to play, and you will have great fun while learning more about the world and the workings of society.

If you have registered or submitted a Choice Sheet, yet cannot attend the weekend, you are required to give Prof. Eileen Ie prior notification in writing at least three days before SIMSOC is being held. Failure to do to do so will result in a 10 point deduction from your total points in Sociology 1, 4, or 21.

To play the game:

1. Read the Rules in The Participant’s Manual SIMSOC by William Gamson (you could find the rules by searching “SimSoc Rules” in Google. It is also available in Canvas Modules). You may not understand the game by reading the directions just once but you will understand as you play. Focus on being familiar with the rules and terms, as well as their location in the manual for easy reference while playing the game.

2. After reading the rules , complete the Choice Sheet. The Choice Sheet cannot be completed accurately without reading the rules.

3. Submit the your completed Choice Sheet to Prof. Eileen Ie. This ensures your enrollment in Soc 84.

4. Enrolling and fully participating in SimSoc will earn you a B for Soc 84. A 5-page paper is required for the possibility of an A grade. Detailed instructions for this paper will be explained on Day 2 of SimSoc.

5. Have lots of funs while learning about the society in which you live.
