Future Vision of Informatics

As technology continues to improve, so will the complexity of digital tasks in the nursing workplace. It is important that with this endeavor there is training and support to current nurses so they can adapt to the changing digital landscape. Careful consideration needs to be placed so that nobody is left behind to be confused within lines of code. In this paper I will be discussing my vision for the future of informatics in nursing as well as the need to continually improve upon new conquests in the digital world and why support is vital to succeeding.

Shifts in Nursing

Due to the growing advancements that have been seen throughout the years, it should be noted that there are currently nurses who are behind the times. If things continue the way they are, the problem will continue to grow and exponentially increase the risk of patient harm. Therefore, I envision that there will come a point where the rate at which technology improves will supersede the capacity that older nurses can adapt (Booth et al., 2020). To circumvent this issue from expanding, there needs to be more training for nurses to be aware of how these new systems operate and making sure everyone is at an even playing field in terms of technological awareness. When being accustomed to doing procedures in a methodological manner, it can be difficult to develop new habits. This is especially true in the case of how fast technologies improve.

Continued Improvement

             In introducing these new changes in health applications, there must still be input being received from nurses to gain better accessibility and mechanical optimization for better patient outcomes (honey et al., 2020) In my vision for the future of informatics within nursing, there should be more participation by the nurses to solidify the recognition of patient complaints and formulate solutions through technology. With these considerations in place, finding cohesive strategies to increase healthy patient outcomes can be reached. Due to nurses being directly involved in patient care, their suggestions are invaluable in providing the best possible care. A system should be a gateway to critical thinking and allow nurses to achieve their goals more easily.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I see technology surpassing the capacity of current nurses’ ability to adapt to growing digital capabilities. To address this issue, I believe that there should be the inclusion of more training to nurses on how to operate advanced technology within the workplace. In combination with this, there needs to be increased dependency on the input of nurses who are directly involved within patient’s care. This critique is invaluable to reaching optimal patient outcomes and improving accessibility.

What is your vision for the future of informatics in nursing practice?

           Nursing informatic allows health care organizations to transform data into information that helps health care practitioners, such as

nurses and physicians, to deliver the best possible outcomes for patients. It combines nursing science, systems-driven analytics, and

information science to identify, capture, manage, and share health care data. Nursing informatics helps improve vital nursing processes

like documentation, which is an important aspect of the profession and essential for effective patient care. Before electronic health

records (EHRs), nurses recorded patient information on charts. Today, nursing informatics simplifies documentation and automates the

transmission of patient data via connected devices to provide access by nurses, physicians, and patients. Understanding the role of

nursing informatics in nursing practice is critical for individuals to advance their health care careers. The benefits of nursing informatics

include a reduction in medical errors, lower costs, improved nurse productivity, and better care coordination among nurses, physicians,

pharmacists, and others throughout various care stages.

 

          According to Booth Richard (2021), digital technologies increasingly affect nursing globally. Examples include the growing presence

of artificial intelligence and robotic systems; society’s reliance on mobile, internet, and social media; and increasing dependence on

telehealth and other virtual models of care, particularly in response to the covid-19 pandemic. All levels of nursing leadership must

advocate more actively for, and invest resources in, a profession that is both complemented and extended by digital technology. The

profession needs to evolve its use of digital technology by continuing to champion and support nurses to become knowledgeable in, and

generate new scientific knowledge on, data analytics, virtual models of care, and the co-design of digital solutions with patients,

differences across contexts and regions permitting. Nursing will continue to offer value and importance to healthcare systems in the

coming decades. However, the profession must consider its role, knowledge, and relationships with technologies and patients to remain

relevant in digitally enabled societies and healthcare systems and continue to provide compassionate care in a digital world. Without

proactive strategic self-reflection, planning, and action, nursing will fail to control its trajectory across the chasm separating the past,

present, and future of practice.

 

          The goal of nursing informatics is to improve the health of populations, communities, families, and individuals by optimizing

information management and communication. Darvish Asieh and Bahramnezhad Fatemeh (2014) stated that the history, definition, and

competencies of nursing informatics indicate the importance of this field. It shows nurses are integrated into the field of IT

automatically. Due to the fast growth and development of technology, to effectively take advantage of information technology in

nursing outcome and quality of health care, educational arrangement is recommended to strengthen nurses at different levels for

implementing information technology tools in all aspects of their profession.
