Name three types of structures organizations have developed as alternatives? One alternative is the matrix organization which has both functional and divisional structures. What are the strengths and weaknesses of this structure? Provide an example of a matrix organization. Section 4: Chapter 10 Question 2 Organizations have recently moved to team structures, networked structures, and Boundaryless structures (which includes the virtual organization). What are the strengths and weaknesses of each of these models? In which one would you most like to work? Section 4: Chapter 10: Question 3 What is the difference between an organic and a mechanistic design in an organization? What types of organizations are best suited to the organic design? Are there organizations which require a mechanistic design? Why? Does an organic design require a tall structure or a flat structure, and why? Section 4: Chapter 11: Question 1 What is the core culture of an organization, and how is it developed and how would an individual identify the culture of an organization? If you were analyzing the organization, what information would you need to make the determination of the actual core culture? Section 4: Chapter 11: Question 2 Most large organizations are multicultural. What types of cultural differences are found in most companies? Define the term glass ceiling. How does this affect different cultures in an organization? Section 4: Chapter 11: Question 3 Kurt Lewin, a noted psychologist studied planned change in organizations. He used three phases; unfreezing, changing, and refreezing. Currently, an additional component of improvising is added. Describe these phases and explain why improvising is so important to the process. Once again choose a question and develop it into a two to three page essay.
