· You will respond as if you were Jazmine’s parent. Writing a short letter to the teacher (peer) explain if you agree or disagree with the findings. Provide your thoughts about using her preferences to change her behavior. Do you agree or disagree with the goals? Why or why not? Share two ideas you will incorporate at home to help change Jazmine’s behavior.

PEERS POST:

Good evening,

The two methods of data described in Jazmine’s scenario that I think will best identify the problem behavior and determine the functions of a behavior are the bar graph and interviews. The bar graph will tell me the behaviors that Jazmine displays and at what times of the day. The bar graph can indicate when I should observe her and find what antecedents trigger her behaviors. I also believe the bar graph is the best way to identify the problem because I can also record how long the behavior lasts and adequately see the difference in days and times. I know the interviews are so beneficial because I can get a complete outlook of Jazmine’s day. Knowing her behaviors at home, on the way to school, and after school will support me in finding a solution. In mom’s interview we learned that mom works late, and Jazmine stays up late to wait for her. In the interview with her former teacher, Grace we learned that Jazmine enjoys gym and art. We also were provided with the technique that was used before she came to our school. to get her to clean up effectively.

Based on Jazmine’s data, I would bring in a professional trained in functional assessment, her mom, and Grace. I would bring in someone who knows about fictional assessments because they will be able to analyze Jazmine with no bias or former judgments. I would bring in her mom so we can talk and create a plan that can be implemented at home and school. Lastly, I would have Grace join the team because she is someone who understands Jazmine, knows how to make her comfortable, and can provide me with techniques and strategies that worked for herself.

Jazmine’s problem behavior is thrown toys for attention. Mom works late, so as a result Jazmine doesn’t get to see her often. This can be what causes her behavior. One function of the behavior is transition. Jazmine usually starts throwing toys during clean up time. Her history of changing centers can cause her to feel overwhelmed during change. To change her challenging behavior into an acceptable behavior I would try the teacher’s helper approach. I would use her energy and intelligence to give herself and her peers jobs during clean up. I would allow her to decide who works better cleaning which area and with who. I would use her love for art to create a poster for behavior or the class schedule. Each poster will let her do what she loves while learning classroom etiquette. With the class schedule, Jazmine would learn the transitions of the class.

Short-term goal: Jazmine will be able to clean up toys without throwing them.

Long-term goal: Jazmine will be able to clean up toys without being told more than once and encourage friends to do the same.

Thank you,
