ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY 4

Annotated Bibliography

A minimum wage is an essential tool in the lives of poor households in America. Researchers have utilized the use of employment to determine if it can help in the eradication of poverty among low-income earners in America. Therefore, researchers are doing what they can to identify the essentiality of using the minimum wage to reduce poverty and other underlying issues. In touchstone 1.2, I provided an outline of the effects of the minimum wage on the attempt to eradicate poverty among the poor American household. In this paper, I will provide an annotated bibliography of the sources I will use in my research and how I will use them.

Clemens, J., & Wither, M. (2019). The minimum wage and the Great Recession: Evidence of effects on the employment and income trajectories of low-skilled workers. Journal of Public Economics170, 53-67.

The authors of this source use the great recession to explain how the minimum wage affects low-skilled individuals' poverty levels. From the research findings, the authors of this source underline that those who were bound by the federal minimum wage during the Great Recession faced a negative effect on their employment. I will use this source to show that the minimum wage has both positive and negative impacts on Americans' lives. Comment by Barbara Lewis: That those does not make sense.

David, H., Manning, A., & Smith, C. L. (2016). The contribution of the minimum wage to US Wage inequality over three decades: a reassessment. American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, 8(1), 58-99. Comment by Barbara Lewis: Add a line between the sources. It would be it easier to read.

The authors of this source try to research about how the minimum wage contributes to wage inequities among the Americans. It is a reassessment work that tries to address any biases that might have been in the previous researches on the same. According to David et al. (2016), the minimum wage reduces wage or income inequity among the lower earners but with a smaller percentage as compared to previous estimates. I will use this source to argue that the minimum wage is vital in reducing poverty among low-wage earners in America. Comment by Barbara Lewis: About is not needed. Comment by Barbara Lewis: Eliminate the. Comment by Barbara Lewis: On the same what? Comment by Barbara Lewis: Good example to include for your argument.

Devereux, S. (2005). Can minimum wages contribute to poverty reduction in poor countries? Journal of International Development17(7), 899-912.

According to this source, using the minimum wage as an antipoverty policy is vital in raising the earnings of poor people above the poverty line. Due to underlying controversies on the same, the authors of this paper suggest that positive anti-poverty outcomes can be achieved with minimal side effects. I will use this source to provide new economics regarding the minimum wage since it provides evidence from various countries showing positive impacts on the minimum wage as an antipoverty policy. Comment by Barbara Lewis: This seems like it will be a valuable source for your essay.

Dube, A. (2019). Minimum wages and the distribution of family incomes. American Economic Journal: Applied Economics11(4), 268-304.

The author of this source provides empirical evidence that the minimum wage distribution can improve family poverty levels. I will use this source to prove that reducing public assistance offsets income gains among poor households, such as cash credits and noncash transfers. Comment by Barbara Lewis: What other main points did the article have that can be used for your essay?

MaCurdy, T. (2015). How effective is the minimum wage at supporting the poor? Journal of Political Economy, 123(2), 497-545.

McCurdy uses this research study to determine the effectiveness of antipoverty policies in reducing poverty levels among low wage earners. Supporters of antipoverty policies argue that employment should not be neglected because it has an impact on consumer behaviors. Therefore, McCurdy states that increasing the minimum wage will reduce poverty levels among poor households in America. I will use this source to illustrate the effectiveness of the minimum wage as an antipoverty policy.

Raissian, K. M., & Bullinger, L. R. (2017). Money matters: Does the minimum wage affect child maltreatment rates?. Children and youth services review72, 60-70. Comment by Barbara Lewis: Is this from a journal? What type of source is this?

According to this research, children from low-income families are prone to maltreatment. From the findings of this source, increasing the minimum wage reduces child maltreatment. I will use this source to support the fact that the minimum wage is an antipovertyanti-poverty policy that helps improve family lives and save children from mistreatment as well. Comment by Barbara Lewis: Maltreatment of what? Comment by Barbara Lewis: spelling

Slonimczyk, F., & Skott, P. (2012). Employment and distribution effects of the minimum wage. Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization, 84(1), 245-264.

Authors of this research study help readers understand how the minimum wage affects wage inequity, employment, and higher education. According to this research, over-education can be produced in an indigenous way. Thus, an increase in the minimum wage can improve low skilled or the unskilled people to attain equity. I will use this source to argue that a decrease in the minimum is likely to deteriorate employment and low-skilled workers' earnings.

Reflection

Each source in my annotated meets the criteria for autobiography information. I have ensured that I provide a summary of what is discussed in each source as well as how I will use the source in my research. When searching for incredible sources, I sued the thesis statement I provided in touchstone 1.2 to get the sources. It was hard getting the sources because many sites do provide sources, some being fake. I used the university library, Google scholar and other credible websites to find the sources.
