CAPSTONE PROJECT

09/10/2020

Introduction

FrontierrAirlines company is an American transporter, founded innDenver, Colorado. It was formed in February 1996, meaning it has been operating for twenty-six years ("FlyFrontier", 2020). It is the eighth largest airline in the U.S. It operates flights to over one hundred destinations in the U.S. and thirty global destinations. Frontier Airlines has over three thousand workers. It is an Indigo Partners subsidiary and has a hub at Denver International Airport with a significant focus on cities in the U.S. Frontier Airlines has a simple organizational structure headed by the Board Chairman ("FlyFrontier", 2020). This enables the company to make quick and informed decisions in its operations. I chose this company because it is a medium-sized company, meaning that data collection will be easy because it is easily accessible. The company will enable me to demonstrate all the program outcomes because it has adequate information online, and I can easily access it. I will research it thoroughly to ensure I get all the information required for effective program outcomes. Some characteristics that make Frontier Airlines an excellent choice for my project include the presence of good leaders that exhibit great leadership traits that will inspire me and motivate me in my future role as a leader. There is also ample information regarding the company and the topic in various secondary sources.

Frontier Airlines Company contains adequate information regarding their company on their website. Their brand logo colour is green, indicating the willingness to do business and serve their customers well. The company is recognized as an industry leader in terms of airline fuel-efficiency. It works hard to enhance efficiency in all ways. A good example of how the company is dedicated is through its ultra-lightweight seats, made from various recycled leather items. Such a change has brought great results in the company’s operations. This is another characteristic that made me choose the company for my project.

It is using all chances to enhance their services at minimal costs and embracing environmental conservation. This has enabled Frontier Airlines to emerge competitive despite being a small and medium-sized enterprise. It offers great services similar to those offered by bigger airline companies.

I believe the company has great leaders that have enabled it to make rational decisions. For instance, a customer asked if the company offers Wi-Fi, movies, and other in-flight forms of entertainment, and their customer care responded no because they would rather pass the cost-savings on to their esteemed consumers and provide the lowest fares possible ("FlyFrontier", 2020). This makes a lot of sense to any business person because as much as entertainment is important, most travelers first check on fare charts while boarding a plane. Hence, I believe there is a lot I can gain from and contribute to the company regarding leadership and business competition. Generally, Frontier Airlines will enable me to demonstrate my MBA program outcomes because it is an accommodating company with sensible growth plans. Through my research, I will recommend better ways to enhance their services and demonstrate leadership styles.

Statement of Scope

My focus regarding a business problem is on business competition, and to be specific; I want to focus on how Frontier Airlines has managed to do averagely well in a market with more robust competitors. The airline industry has intense competition because entry barriers are relatively low due to market access liberalization resulting from globalization (Park, & Seo, 2019). However, existing airlines benefit a lot from rights on airports and other economies of scale, resulting from fewer entry barriers than new airlines.

I believe Frontier Airlines is the best company for my program because it has emerged competitively despite the big fish in the industry (Carey, 2016). The company is still famous in its ways and has remained relevant since its establishment.

In my project, I intend to focus on different competition topics, such as types of competition, market structures, and ways in which small and medium-sized enterprises can use the latest technology to attain a competitive advantage and overcome barriers to significant competition. These areas will help me examine how to remain competitive in a market that is hard to enter, and mechanisms that can be used to enter the market or industry. The level of accessing the data necessary to examine the topic critically is relatively high. Data will be obtained using secondary sources, such as scholarly articles and books. This means I need to do thorough research using peer-reviewed articles and other literary references to support my project topic. Risks that might include using false information about the company; hence, I need to research viable sources to avoid the wrong things to avoid tarnishing its name.

Through the information obtained from the company, I will offer evidence-based solutions to competition. I will also use other relevant materials to ensure I provide effective solutions for competition challenges. I will even think critically through the knowledge obtained from the course to provide logical and sound solutions.

Applyyinnovative, strategic, andssustainableaapproaches to commercial practice and development.

I will also use different approaches that demonstrate effective business planning and practice. The topic project will also enable me to strategize and understand how to work best to achieve the best results.

Lead and cooperate in a computer-generated, worldwide, aand socially diverse environment.

The project topic will enable me to showcase leadership ability, primarily through the process of data collection.

It will allow me to showcase my collaboration ability by interacting with people from different cultures. I will also demonstrate leadership skills through clear communication, listening, and even learning.

Integrate values of ethics and integrity into commercial choices.

This outcome will be demonstrated by being honest in all my undertakings. I will also respect and remain loyal to everyone involved in my project. I will also be trustworthy and stay on the correct path throughout the entire project.

Conclusion

In conclusion, my project topic will be based on business competition, and to be specific, a strategic analysis conducted on the competition sector of Frontier Airlines. The company is the right choice because it has tried to remain competitive in an industry with stiff competition, especially from the more prominent companies. Data accessibility will relatively easy because the company is medium, and I intend to plan well before engaging in the exercise. This topic will enable me to achieve all the expected outcomes of the MBA program because it involves various activities.
