Composition 1A 1930 depicts the works of Piet Mondrian. The artist contributed to the abstract visual language in an encouraging way despite applying the relative small canvas. In his work The True Value of Opposition in Life and Art, he explains the new equilibrium in his work. Therefore, he narrates that “if a man wants to be good, he needs to fall back into finding for false ease and static equilibrium, which is inevitably countered to the dynamic equilibrium of true life. Likewise, it is quite natural that he seeks the best among the opposition that life offers, and that is what he experiences as harmony. However, life shows us that it is beauty resides in the fact that precisely this inevitable disequilibrated opposition compels us to seek equivalent oppositions” (Krauss 58). In this quote, Mondrian uses the words like unity and equilibrium to illustrate how the psychological state of balance can be attained by stabilizing the dynamics between psychological forces and the visual forms. The extract further shows that whenever the forms, forces, and counter reactions of a design are regulated and manipulated to gain a felt balance, a state of balance is always produced. Moreover, the stability forces and equilibrium symbolizes the artistic nature of human beings in the society.
On the other hand, in composition 2 (1922) in his reading the composition with Red blue and Yellow, Mondrian uses various objects to symbolize different life situations. For instance, he uses the horse and rider to depict his crusade against conventional aesthetic traits in the society. In addition, the symbol also shows dreams of a better and more spiritual future through the transformative powers of art. He, therefore, explains how Krauss used the grid of modernity to explain the two conflicting situation. That led him to conclude that,” One would hardly suspect that we are seeing the artist’s determination to depict the underlying structure of reality” (Krauss 61).
Question 2
In 2003, Joselit analyzed the paradoxical content of the street and store according to his personal observation. For instance, he illustrated that the paradigm of information in the society is the network, which is an ever-expanding data is resurfacing from the globe. He added that network is configurations without the addition of distinct edges (Sontag 16). Network configuration majorly relies on the kaleidoscopic patterns of extension and intensification. Joselit also argued that the paradigm of consumer in the society is the commodity (Joselit 82). He defines a commodity as an objectified figure of desire in the society (Joselit 77). For that reason, commodities happen to be points of arrests of network, where the commutability of money, desire, and information is shortly halted. He indicates the way the history of television and advertisement led to the connection between network and commodities in different commodities in the world.
The two commodities of network and commodities relates to Joselit’s argument that television of mediated public space through convertible model objectivity theory that suggested that the apparent in movements as diverse pop and conceptual art, or land and performance art, where information is folded into or expands out from the contour of things (Joselit 71). Therefore, major objectivity of feedback is to trace such cases of disruption with the commodity network system and in the presence of art. He also shows that if a commodity meaning comes from its circulation, it is probable to develop a politics whose major purpose is not to abolish or critique commodification. In this argument, he meant that the mobility of commodities is narrowly channeled in the service of sales. He gives an example of Coca Cola and cigarettes brands that came to television advertising to lure some clients to watch the adverts.
The body art diffused the covering between the artist and networks by placing the body front and center as actor, medium, performance, and canvas. The lines are removed from the message and the creator and creation, offering new meaning to, and amplifying the idea of, authentic first person impression. Likewise, the 1960s atmosphere of transforming social mores and thawed attitudes toward nudity, the body became an ideal tool to make the political personal. As a result, what else could be more demonstrative of an artist’s opinion, passions, and voice than a direct, literal representation of the self as the chief channel of communication in constructing that point. In matters of hot button issues of the time, applying the body became a way for artists to attach the individual with the universal human experiences.
Question 3
The early form of globalization made human beings comfortable but they destroyed it through their profit making motives in the society. According to Kracauer, the discoveries of contemporary modern physics led to the discovery of many scientists who can explore various planets (Kracuer 71). Others equally applied the skill to land to the moon. In addition, human beings applied the skill to make nuclear source of energy as an alternative to electricity and other forms of energies. However, their profit making ideologies of constructing excessive nuclear for destruction or selling purposes led to the several destructive activities in the society, which includes warfare.
The establishment of horticultural agriculture in different parts of the world but various scientists such as Sir Jagadis led to the production of a variety of horticultural products such as flowers, fruits, and vegetables. That equally intensified food production in different regions of the world. Nevertheless, the over application of fertilizers and farm chemicals led to the reduction of soil fertility in different farms in the world. In addition, that led to water and soil pollution since the fertilizers and other farm chemicals were exposed to rivers and seas thereby affecting the lives of aquatic creatures in the society (Kracuer 67). The issue of ethical dimension of environmental issues in development is also another early globalization issue that is proving to be a problem in the current society. For instance, it has led to the present status of the Pacific island nations to demonstrate a growing disparity in opportunities and wealth distribution accompanied by increasing poverty in the society. The connection between environmental destruction and poverty intensifies poverty in the world.
The previous scientists discovered environmental safety ways of reclaiming land for agricultural use, which had no any negative impacts on the society. Nonetheless, the current society use the method in a negative way for them over reclaim the land for commercial agricultural purposes thereby affecting the climate. That, for instance, has led to issues such as global warming in the society, which is causing discomfort among human race. Additionally, global warming affects the ozone layer, thus, leading to desertification that leads to the expansion of arid areas in the world.
Question 4
Kracuer applies the law of thought of logic to response to the challenges of modernity as depicted in the Weimar Republic and its culture. His early writing also challenged the theory of modernity in the world. Using the essay'Das Ornament der Masse', he expresses the desire to transform to modern forms of social organizations; conversely, he isolates himself from the society since he terms it destructive in nature (Kracuer 73). In his early, writings, he demonstrates some unhappiness for individuals for individuals to separate themselves from the world. However, he fails to consider the journey of the available collectivities a viable option (Kracuer 70). Instead, in 1925, he considered an existentialism inspired by Kierkergaard for guidance on how to live a meaningful life within rationalized and spiritually emptied modern a viable logic (Ross 1). He also condemns creativity and individuality since he considers them as the major reasons for occurrence of various calamities in the world such as wars and natural disasters. For that reason, he condemned some of the writers who advocated for modernity in the world and termed them evil people in the society.
Kracuer indicates how the individuals such as leaders use the media to influence the way people think in the society. For instance, some leaders in the world used the media as an item to sway people’s ideologies and make them follow their ideologies (Harvey 68). He also demonstrates the way mass production in the world-diminished art through affecting sectors such as painting that illustrates the artistic capability of an artist.
