BCO 111 FOUNDATIONS OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT Task brief & rubrics

Task

This assignment will explore how the student has understood what it means the “concept” of Foundations of Business Management, its purposes and how to

apply it into their activities as a future manager.

Students are expected to write an essay. The essay must be based on the explanations of the main topics that they have seen in class (related to the course). In addition, during the course we will learn and understand what an essay is, how to write it and, how to use references and include them (through the Harvard style) into the final document. This is an individual task, and students must focus their explanations into the following topics.

• For the first part of the assignment, students are expected to explain: 1. What is “management” and what is an “organization” (by including different concepts and explanations) 2. Define and describe the main tools to analyse the macroenvironment of a business organization.

For the second part of the assignment, students are expected to include: 1. What it means defining a strategy for a business and the difference between a strategy and tactics 2. What is the decision-making process and its main elements. 3. Define leadership and explain 2 or 3 leadership styles.

Both reports (First one and the second one) must be submitted in pdf format, through turnitin.

Formalities:

• Wordcount: 1.500 words

• Cover, Table of Contents, References and Appendix are excluded of the total wordcount.

• Font: Arial 12,5 pts.

• Text alignment: Justified.

• The in-text References and the Bibliography have to be in Harvard’s citation style.

Submission: Via Moodle (Turnitin). Specific day and hour limit.

• First part: Deadline 18th October 2020 at 23:59 CEST

• Second part: deadline 1st November at 23:59 CEST

Weight: This task is a 100% of your total grade for this subject.

• The first part represents 40% of the total weight

• The second part represents 60% of the total weight

First part of the assignment assesses the following learning outcomes:

• Outcome 1: demonstrate understanding of the principles of management and their applicability

• Outcome 2: identify and classify the various management functions (planning, organizing, leading, and controlling), the activities that are performed

under each function and their significance within organisations.

• Outcome 4: understand the interdependence between the Organization, its environment and the choice of organizational structures

Second part of the assignment assesses the following learning outcomes:

• Outcome 3: illustrate the importance of organizational culture, team management, motivation, planning, decision making and leadership

• Outcome 5: describe the importance of HRM and its consequences for an organization’s performance

• Outcome 6: determine the impact of leadership styles on an organization effectiveness and efficiency

• Outcome 7: illustrate the importance of Organizational culture, team management, motivation, and leadership.
