Enhancing Workplace Environment
The overall score for Clark’s workplace environment assessment was 85 indicating that the organization maintained a moderately healthy workplace environment (Clark, 2015). For most indicators including job satisfaction, communication, compensation and employee wellness, the organization scored five (Clark, 2015). The least score was three for all the twenty areas assessed further reinforcing the organization’s dedication to promoting a healthy workplace environment.
Basing on the workplace assessment results, my organization is more civil compared to Clark. Within my organization, if the same assessment was conducted, the least score would be four signaling the organization’s determination to promoting civility. Communication and collaboration form the hallmark of the organization (Ginter et al., 2018). From the top management to the bottom, everyone is mandated to provide precise and timely information to the organization whenever it occurs. Also, each staff is expected to work collaboratively in contributing to overall attainment of the organization’s vision and mission statements (Miles & Scott, 2019). The organization instituted robust mechanisms currently used to counter disputes that emanate within the organization. Employees have the freedom to report any instance believed to disorient the normal functionality of the organization. Comprehensive structures promoting respect and trust within the diverse workforce is also evident. Working at my organization is amazing.
However, despite cultivating civility at workplace, I have once witnessed incivility on several occasions. It was during a departmental meeting while discussing solutions to the slow manual applicant tracking system. The manager proposed hiring more employees to speed the hiring process while I instead proposed introducing an online hiring process when my chance to contribute came. The manager quickly silenced my opinion before I concluded. It was a clear indication of disrespect on my side. We later resolved the issue and today, the organization is flourishing on respect for each other’s view.
