Hello class.

Some of the differences found on these social media sites are that they are focused in different aspects of life. For example, Facebook is design to fulfil or please many needs of the human being these days:

· Stay in touch with family, friends and loved ones

· Advertise or market certain products or services

· Professional networking

· Updates and news from any part of the world

These are mere examples of what Facebook can do, now in the other hand Twitter limits your posting just to 140 character and is more focused to short comments and news without limitation on who can read every single post. LinkedIn is more directed to professional networking with the purpose of staying in touch with colleagues, share field specific knowledge and/or job seeking updates. I have an account with Facebook since 2003 and is being a very useful tool since in my opinion it covers all the aspects that other social media websites try to maintain.

Google+ compares to Facebook in terms of social media concepts. They have similar ways for the user to register, share, have friends among others. In all honesty I’ve never tried to use this type of social media tool since I’ve had Facebook for a long time which means a significant number of friends, pictures, videos and important events that I will never get transitioning to Google+. In addition, most of the users value their privacy and using Google+ could mean losing this so-called benefit that Facebook has. In conclusion I don’t think google has a chance in competing with Facebook in the concept of social media.

The article selected for this week’s forum is titled “The Bankers Who Think ISIS Killings Are A Hoot”. These employees basically posed as ISIS members and reenacted a beheading with one other member of the same establishment. Their excuse was that the video was made during a team building exercise which it doesn’t justify the inconsiderate act. The termination of the employees was justifiable because they needed to maintain a professional behavior and consider the sensibility of the subject. Families in the world are being affected by these types of events and finding out that someone is making fun of it would cause a bad reputation to the bank and other employees. There is a potential measure that the employer could’ve implement which is to prohibit social media use during work hours but in the other hand that could’ve affect business operations.

Three recommendations to improve the GIS system in the work environment are:

· Establish Standards for Naming convention of files

The naming convention of files has become an issue because of the lack of standards. Because of this, is challenging to find the appropriate and specific file need it for X project. The suggested solution will be to have a meeting with the managers and establish a specific naming convention that identifies the format, purpose and description.

· Database Structure

File structuring is another issue that I’ve seen over and over in my workplace due to the same instance, lack of a standard. File structuring will improve speed in production because anyone will feel comfortable navigating through the databases and finding the information they need to complete their product. The solution is to establish a common knowledge file tree that helps everyone logically on finding the appropriate database or file.

· Processing speed

Production speed is fundamental in this type of field since customers most of the time required last minute products. Most of the time is not the analyst that works slow but the time it takes the software to reach back to a database and load the contents. The solution, even though it might take some time, would be to reach out to the developers and let them know what your issues are. Specific facts or aspects will be very helpful for both parties for example: it takes a long time to load this type of data; the connection to X server drops frequently etc.
