Forum Discussions
I. DIRECTIONS
There will be five asynchronous (you can log-on at any time that you want during the period in which the discussion is active!) class discussion s during the semester count for a grade. You will be expected to participate in discussions by adding your thoughts that are supported by materials and concepts that you have acquired in the course. REMEMBER: These are discussions, not monologues. Therefore, don’t write long essays and your several responses during the discussion should reflect an analysis of the question, based on the knowledge gained from reading the text, and the comments that have been made by your classmates and other resources at your disposal. One response is not enough in a discussion.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
1. Discussions are graded. Everyone who participates in a discussion will earn some type of passing grade on the activity, but people who do not participate in a discussion will earn a “0” for the activity. Discussions are interesting and they give online courses their interactive feature.
2. All discussions have beginning and ending dates. Please do not initiate a discussion until the beginning date. We do not want two discussions going on at the same time.
II. DISCUSSION 1
A. The first discussion question which all members of the class must participate in comes from Chapter 19. It deals with urban life and allows you to formulate positions on a number of issues. Please feel free to respond to your classmates ideas and to build on them.

C. FORMAT
Please make an initial statement within the first 4 days and then respond or add to the comments of your classmates for the rest of the time period.
Remember these are discussion, so informality in tone is ok and you can stress the parts of the question, which seem most important in your opinion.
