Student 1:
Conscription! People complain that the youth of America today are selfish and don’t know respect. There is one solution, that can benefit generations to come. And that is Conscription.
It can have many positives on the up and coming generations. Teaching them a sense of responsibility, and self worth. For two years, every young woman and every young man should contribute to making our country better. Conscripts would learn basic skills that are taught throughout every branch of the military, given the opportunity for a steady job and health care for two years. If they choose to, they can continue military service after their time is finished.
Yes the military life isn’t for everyone, that is seen in our volunteer force today. Neither is college but far to many young Americas put themselves into debt to find out that college isn’t for them. Many of our allied nations use conscription as a rite of passage into adulthood, and for them it works well. Our country could benefit and improve on what our allies are doing to our own rite of passage.
Our country can have a ready reserve of bodies to respond to any national and international emergency to strikes. And after two years of successful and honorable service those conscripts can return to normal having learned self worth or having a sense of purpose and directions. Our country can benefit from a form of conscription. Our youth would learn respect, and the value of hard work and give them a jump start on their future with money in their pockets and a set of skill to take into the future.
Student 2:
Sustainable Jobs
One of Americas biggest threats when it comes to the idea of good paying, sustainable, quality jobs are the way corporate businesses decide to ship the jobs over seas for a cheaper work offer. America needs more good quality jobs that are secure and able to provide for families without the worry of traveling or being fired.
I understand the way businesses are looking for more income, production, and outsourcing for better business future decisions, but maybe put into regard the impact these decisions have on communities, workers, and families across the entire country.
Companies should instead be looking for improvement on domestic production, investment, and future critical jobs to create a more sustainable company infrastructure for the people to rely on. The companies would have a great amount of support from the people if they showed their focus toward jobs in the united states and creating stronger job security with more opportunity with jobs being produced in the United States.
Furthermore, Companies that are going for overseas production should be having more restrictive policies creating a harder way for companies to continue this effort. Forcing the companies to create more job opportunities and protect the jobs we have with ensuring quality of the jobs. Giving middle class Americans a chance to have a more stable future in work to support their families.
Student 3:
Illegal narcotics and the fight to combat the distribution, sale, and trafficking of those illegal narcotics is an ongoing struggle that will only become harder and harder to combat in the coming years. Our nation has been fighting the use of illegal narcotics for many years and on multiple fronts. As a nation, we must work together to ensure those illegal narcotics do not overflow on the streets of the United States and grow into a war that is unable to be won.
The fact that the War on Drugs is being fought on so many fronts is one of the main issues as to why it is so hard to combat at this point. Law Enforcement must try and combat this issue at street level to ensure users and dealers understand that there will be a punishment for the use and sale of illegal narcotics. Border control agents have the uphill battle of attempting to stop illegal narcotics from being smuggled into the United States where they are sold and used. Hospitals and rehabilitation staff must try and fight to save the lives of those who have overdosed on illegal narcotics or are struggling to rid themselves of addiction.
Some narcotics have medicinal applications and so there is also a fight for legalization of those certain substances. The fight to legalize the marijuana for medical use must not detract from the fight to try and stop the further use of other illegal narcotics that have no health benefit to American citizens. Clinics that distribute clean needles to facilitate the healthier practice of not sharing needles must not detract from the fact that the use of heroin can lead to death. The ultimate goal of these other efforts must remain controlled so as not to accidentally promote the use of illegal narcotics or inhibit the other efforts to combat illegal narcotics.
Drugs that continue to be useful for medical practices must continue to at all times be regulated so that dependency does not become the bigger issue. Americans must never lose sight of the greater evil of illegal narcotics when trying to legalize marijuana for medicinal use.
We as a nation must understand that the fight is far from over and we will need to continue the focus to rid the streets of illegal narcotics. All efforts in the War on Drugs need to be focused on saving lives and stopping the spread of addiction. The War on Drugs can be won as long as Americans remain diligent in their efforts and know that the problem will only grow worse before it gets better.
STUDENT 4:
The border wall proposed by President Trump’s administration has been a topic controversy. The current walls a long the border between Mexico and the United States were built to help taper off drug smugglers and illegal border crossings.
One concern with keeping immigrants from illegally crossing the border is the fear of an increase in crime. Statistics have suggested that illegal immigrants commit crime at a much lower rate than native born citizens. This may be due to illegal immigrants trying to mitigate any unwanted attention.
Although a border wall may deter illegal border crossings it may have effect on the environment. There are concerns about the wall affecting the migration of certain species of animals. Additionally, the border wall could force certain species to become secluded and cause inbreeding.
Even with such measures in place, there will always be counter measures developed to be able to cross the border. The United States needs to look at the current immigration processes in place and make needed changes on how to regulate immigration.
When it comes to the Rogerian method, I am not sure if I have ever used it in my day to day life. I tend to stay neutral on a lot of subjects and try to understand both sides. Although this is the case with me, I am still only human and remain biased to certain things. I believe that I would be able to use this method in the future. The method can be applied while trying to persuade someone without causing an argument.
STUDENT 5:
This year marks another year in the elections where everyone no matter Republican or Democrat gets to cast their vote to decide who will win this election and steer this country in the right direction. There are many people out there however that do not vote. Whether it be they believe that their vote will not count or matter or they are undecided on the candidates and just choose not to vote. If you do not vote then you have just willingly decided that your voice and opinion do not matter. If you do go out and vote, then you get to speak for a party or candidate that you believe in and see this country potentially go in a direction that you that improves the country, the world, or just your quality of life. This can only be done if you go out and vote.
