Formulating Leadership Part 1

As a way to help the senior management to better accommodate the generation known as Millennials, develop into leaders within the company, it is expressed that “most valued attributes of an effective CEO are strong interpersonal skills and having a leadership style that has impact through both communication skills and emotional intelligence" (R. Williams and J. Spector, 2017).

Practices

One of the practices recommended is to create an environment where there is once a week power session to help everyone with the opportunity to communicate their ideas, suggestion, and concerns. Also, a good practice would be incorporating a work environment that is flexible and open to change such as having a casual Friday. Millennials are driven by innovativeness, non-tradition, and communication. With doing power sessions and opening up a little flexibility the millennials team will see that we are trying to create a system with their ideas and concepts in mind. In which will open the door for millennials to participate and feel like they too, can lead the business into the future.

According to the article "How to coach the millennial leaders of tomorrow" there are several approaches that an organization could use when trying to promote millennial as leaders. One of the approaches suggest that because millennials are known to have diverse passions and hold parallel careers, it is best for an organization to encourage their passions.  When presenting this idea to senior management it may be beneficial to note that doing this will aid in adding competencies and new skills to an organization (Mook, 2016).

Another approach that may work in enhancing the number of millennial leaders is to help senior leadership to dispel some of the myths that they may have about millennial and show how these misunderstandings can be transferred into strengths that enhance the company. Kadakia, suggest that one misconception is that traditional perspective is that millennials are entitled; when in fact they have an inherently involved entrepreneurial spirit, which is meant to not only benefit themselves but an organization. (2017)

Presentation

In order to get the senior leaders on board with the advancing millennials is to request them to shadow our new ideas. They would be invited observe during the power session, so they can see how the process of creating new ideas and solutions take place. Each leader of the millennial team will have to create an innovative presentation showing their leadership skills on their project to share with the senior management team.

Conclusion

From job shadowing to needing extra encouragement to power meetings these millennials will be ready to show their hand at how innovative they can be. Leaders are not born but made. It can be hard to make a major change in how something is done but after the millennials show the senior group their presentation on how they can be a great leader they will be sure to sway their understanding as to how they will succeed.
