HSC 602: Evidence Analysis Project

PICO/PIO Question: "Among adults with type 2 diabetes, how does physical activity intervention effects maintenance of glucose".

Step 1: Gather and classify the evidence. Develop the search plan including databases, search terms and eligibility/exclusion criteria for research studies. Perform and evaluate search results to end up with the set of research studies that you will evaluate. For the scope of this project, I recommend identifying approximately 3 primary studies to evaluate, preferably from the past 5 years. I am limiting to 3 studies for the purpose of this course, although normally you’d want to assess all available literature meeting inclusion criteria.

Step 2: Critically appraise each article using the Evidence Abstract Worksheets (use one for each study) and Quality Checklists (one for each study), included as a separate file in this posting.

Step 3: Summarize the data extraction (study results) in table form.

Step 4: Write the conclusion statement (your statement should specifically address and answer the original question). Grade the overall body of evidence supporting the conclusion statement (Use Grades I-V described in the EA Manual).

Step 5: Discuss the findings. What are the pros and cons of the results? What may be potential challenges to applying the answer to the research question in clinical practice? Where should further research be focused?

Also please paraphrase the information you're putting into your Evidence Worksheet. Most of the information should be paraphrased in your own words. Copying from the research paper verbatim without quotations is considered plagiarism.
