For discussion 1 format

These are short answer questions. You can prompt the question if it makes it easier to write the answers, I do not mind if you choose to do it that way. However, these answers should be given in complete sentences and not just one sentence long. For question one for example, you must start with I live in ........ my state house district number is......... and it is represented by ........ she/he affiliates with the Democratic/Republican party. Her/his committee assignment/s ............ His/her authored/sponsored bill is bill SB/HB # ........ His/her areas of interest are.......

You must do the same thing for your state senate district.

Question number two must be a minimum of two paragraphs defining each term in your own words and supported by a quote from your assigned source.

Primary elections vs. General elections

Question number three: for example, you should start by:

Based on my street address and zip code Democrat candidate....... won the nomination of his/her party and will run against the Republican nominee......... in November elections

Question number Four: If there were no runoffs for your state house and state senate you must type in "There were no runoffs for my state house and state senate districts.

Minimum two paragraphs long. Your data should be presented in a table and be accompanied by a narrative explanation of your findings.

I. Did your district's number change?

II. Comparing the two district maps, were there any changes demographically?

III. Pay close attention to your district map. Does the district show any signs of gerrymandering? Explain (check this link  Redistricting Explained  for more information).

Question number five: You must provide a table then explain your data in writing, for example:

State House District (Old Map)

State House District (New Map)

 75% White Alone Voters

 61%White Alone Voters (-14%)

 11%Hispanic Voters

19% Hispanic Voters (+8%)

7%Black Alone Voters

14% Black Alone Voters (+7%)

4%Asian Alone Voters

4% Asian Alone Voters (stayed the same)

Senate District (Old Map)

Senate District (New Map)

22%White Alone voters

26%White Alone voters (+4%)

28% Hispanic Voters

24% Hispanic Voters (-4%)

48% Black Alone Voters

46% Black Alone Voters (-2%)

2% Asian Alone Voters

3% Asian Alone Voters (+1%)

To answer the question below you must read the article then answer the question.

Pay close attention to your district map. Does the district show any signs of gerrymandering? Explain (check this link  Redistricting Explained  for more information).

"The compactness of a district, measured using the ratio of the district area to the area of a circle with the same perimeter, can serve as a useful proxy for how gerrymandered the district is. The map below colors Congressional districts according to their compactness, for states with at least three districts."
