Food Security Research Paper Guidelines

Due Date: Tuesday, November 12 via Turnitin on Brightspace

Presentation Dates: November 14 - 26, 2019

Task: Develop a comprehensive essay related to the theme “Food and Nutrition Security” with a

focus on the topic you selected to write your research paper. Please refer the rubrics posted on

brightspace for more detail on what is expected in terms of the learning outcome. Each student

will write a research paper and present their research paper to the class.

Beginning on Thursday, November 14, Students will prepare a presentation. Presentations should

be between ten to fifteen minutes long. Completed papers should be a minimum of 10 pages of

content (Times New Roman, font size 12 with 1.5 line spacing, Page setup: Margins 1" (both

top, bottom, left and right)), one cover page and one page for your references. A research paper

is a piece of continuous, flowing, structured and paragraphed text. Exactly how an individual

research paper structured is very much the choice of the individual writer. There is no prescribed

‘recipe’ for structuring your research paper. However, please do follow the following basic

pattern described below.

At least your research paper should have the following four basic parts:

1. An introduction - where you define the problem and formulate a plan 2. Methodology 3. Analysis part - the body of the research (the body of the research can be organized under

different subtitles)

4. A conclusion and recommendation

Sources: Internet sites should assist you in identifying useful sources of information for this

paper. Home pages of UN agencies like FAO, WFP, and UNICEF can be used as sufficiently

authoritative sources of information. Other useful sources of information also include: The

Center for Food Security and Public Health and National Agricultural Library of the USDA.

However, other authoritative sources of information also contain a variety of useful scientific

journal and newspaper sources that may be helpful. Please contact library personnel for

assistance if you need to locate information with sources/citations. Your paper MUST include a

Reference list with at least ten different sources of information. Citations are to be clearly

documented (using APA style).

Your work should be submitted via Turnitin on Brightspace. Any evidence of plagiarism will

be penalized. Papers containing such academic dishonesty will be given a zero (0) and

students may be reported to the Dean’s office, which may result in an appearance before

the Hearing Committee for disciplinary action. The maximum similarity result should not

be more than 10%.

Deadlines: The completed papers, together with references, must be submitted on time by

midnight on November 12, 2019. Late papers will be penalized by one letter grade for each day

late, beginning at 12:15 a.m. on November 13. No papers will be accepted after November 26,

our last day of class.
