Diversity management is the purposeful hiring of a workforce that include people of different backgrounds, ethnicities and talents. Management must provide resources that connect, learn from and respect the differences of those they hire. Diversity and inclusion have been shown to have a positive effect on employees. It promotes job satisfaction and performance. Both diversity management and inclusion are vital for the continued growth of an organization, (Ohunakin, et al., (2019)
Affirmative action was the government’s way of correcting systemic racism in higher education and the workplace. Therefore, they put in place by executive orders that mandated higher education and businesses must employee and enroll minorities, specifically Black Americans. It was a way to provided equal opportunities to all. By using affirmative action, companies avoided legal complications. While both can be used to increase diversity in the workplace, diversity management, is a component of strategic management to advance the organization. Affirmation action is laws passed to provide equal opportunities to marginalized segments of society, which included minorities and women (Stanford Encyclopedia, (2019, April).
