The theater piece I would want to write would be quite similar to the Thai soccer team cave rescue. For those who are not familiar, a soccer team was stuck miles inside of a flooded cave and were eventually rescued by a multinational team of divers. The geopolitical situation of the world right now is quite volatile, and one of the largest hot spots of conflict is Southeast Asia. Despite the animosity the nations involved in the rescue have for each other, they were able to successfully rescue the team. As a lifelong diver and after taking cave training I have a great appreciation for the amount of effort and teamwork that had to be put in for everything to work. Even with significant international support one of the rescue divers died in a low visibility sump with significant currents, any diver's nightmare. Decades of political bickering were set aside to save lives. I want to write a piece that targets not only international political leaders bickering with each other, but one that also reaches individual people caught up in the crazy partisanship that I notice every single day. As a result of the play I would love to not only see international teams form for the purpose of saving lives, but for people within the U.S. to set aside the generalizations they have for each other and notice the numerous common goals and threads among us. 

I would like the play to take place in one of the several cramped dry spots in the cave that were used to stage the rescues, titled An Underground Discussion on The Makings of Underwater Breathing Apparatus. The absurd title alludes to the absurd nature of political grandstanding and prejudice. It would be very minimalistic with only a handful of actors and the main set composing of just a box representing the stage. The overarching setting would be in a cave that lies on land contested between two countries to highlight cooperation, similar to the islands in the South Pacific that are claimed by several nations. Rescuers from two of the competing nations are forced into working the staging area during the rescue due to bureaucratic slip ups and eventually begin to set aside their differences after a scare when the water begins to rise. After the scare, rescuers begin to share stories from their past beginning with how they became divers and rescuers, then eventually begin to notice the significant amount of similarities they have with each other.
