The flea market is an abbreviation of western and western countries for the market of old

stalls. It consists of a number of stalls and the market size varies. Most of the goods for sale are

used goods, people’s extra items and unused clothes that are out of date, small decorations on

clothes, complete old automobiles, video recorders, television sets, washing machines, and

everything. The price is low, only 10% to 30% of the new price. The management of the flea

market is loose. The annual flea market events are now held in most schools.

There are two theories about the source of the Flea market: According to the

etymologist, Christine Ammer, the Flea market originally originated from New York’s Fly Market,

a fixed market in the Lower Manhattan area of New York. From the American Revolutionary War

(1775) lasted until about 1816. The word Fly comes from the Dutch name Vly or Vlie in the

market. The word means “valley” in Dutch. Coincidentally, it is pronounced in Dutch just like the

flea in English, so it is formed. Flea market in English.

Another argument is that the Flea market originated in France at the end of the 19th

century. Le Marche aux Puces (French, literally equivalent to the market of the fleas in English)

is a place where Paris sells bargains. Early Englishmen often sold their old clothes and old

things on the street, and those old things often had nasty little insects such as fleas and lice.

Gradually, people will call the flea market. However, we Chinese people also have a flea market,

but we do not have these bugs in it and literally translate it into a flea market. People half-

jokingly said that the tattered goods in the market are likely to be full of flea, which is why the

market got its name.

I attended to flea market in Pasadena City college. There’s usually only one flea market

every month. I was very excited, I’ve been to flea market in China once but not in United States,

this is the first time I’ve been to flea market here. It was 8am until 3pm.

There’re less people than I thought. I thought flea market should be a lot of people and

very crowd. People were dressing up with causal.

I heard that PCC’s flea market is very famous. I was shocked when I started to

shopping in the flea market. All the big items were on the ground and smaller items were placed

on the table and there were shacks for every different sellers. This is the “shop” of them for the

day. They have everything.

There were so many art pieces. which were vintage painting and sculptures. There were

so many little art stuff that I haven’t see anywhere before. There were also jewelries, furniture.

clothes, and even small plants. Everyone seems very happy while they were shopping in the

flea markets. I can see some buyer was collecting those stuff that you can’t find in the mall or

outside. It was very different feeling than I’m shopping in the mall. In flea market, I can find

some many stuff that other people don’t has. So many unique pieces and it’s a lot cheaper than

retailers outside of flea markets.

The price range is around 10 to 20 dollars or even less for smaller stuff. Some of them

are used, but I can still find brand new stuff out of them. The atmosphere was very causal and

relaxed. There was no rush to buy anything, I always get supervised while you are visiting a

new seller in flea market. I was wondering where did those stuff came from, so I asked those

sellers, they told me most of the stuff are from their home. Love is sharing, they loved the stuff

they are selling, they hope other people can have them too. I think the buyers who comes to the

flea market are all looking for something very special, that you can’t purchased everywhere

else. All the items are from everywhere in the world.

For buyers, the flea market is undoubtedly very cheap and can save a lot of money for

the buyer. And by trading in the flea market, you can let you know how to save some money you

can save, so as to better understand how to manage finances. And if it is a used book, you can

not only save money, but also can save some time to take notes and find ways to suit others on

the way. they were all dressing in very causal clothes, they seems very passions in the selling

their items in the flea market.

For the seller: the flea market can make him more profitable. He buys at a low price and

sells at a lower price than the market price. Consumers like this price, and he can sell well. It

can be said that he is taking a puerile line.

I think I’ll like to attend to the flea market in the morning or afternoon, because you can

get more stuff you like as early as you go. I would like to go again , I think the flea market

protect our environmental. From the point of view of environmental protection, we can know that

this is a way to save resources and optimize resources. Selling something that someone else

has used to sell it undoubtedly saves new resources for production. At the same time, some

waste must be produced in production. How to deal with waste is also an environmental issue.

Improper waste treatment will inevitably cause environmental pollution.

The best thing for the flea market is you can find art pieces that you can’t find anywhere.

While I’m walking through those vintage art works, it feels like you can see some many stuff

form the local collected.It isn’t like the art works in the museum, it seems more friendly and

close to me. I feel art is everywhere, I can see all the art pieces they are selling has their own

story in it.
