Introduction

My topic is going to be on the effects of on/off the field/court violence that impacts sports and the culture around sports.

In the world of athletics, competition, spectatorship, and the atmosphere around sports has become the increased concern over violence and the on/off the playing surface effects that impact the sport, culture, and environment around them. Within the last couple decades, there has been an increasingly amount of violence perpetuated in the sports on all aspects of sports. These aspects range from spectators all the way to the actual athletes in competition. Not only has violence in sports been apart of mainstream/televised programs but it has also been exposed to a younger audience. This article will also include youth levels all the way up to the professional levels of violence in competition. This article will also include excessive competitive violence , spectator violence and media negatively portraying sport violence.

Spectator violence is one of the most dangerous ordeals that can happen at a sporting events. The reason for this dangerous occurrence is the ambience of the sporting events. Sporting events usually have a number of various reasons as to why it's unsafe such as angry fans, alcohol intake and gambling. With these contributing factors spectator violence comes into effect. Not only does spectator violence affect the crowd but it also affects the players and the officials.

Excessive competitive violence is used in all sports. Excessive competitive violence is aggressive violence in sports which also can be fined in some sports, which is unsportsmanlike conduct. Unsportsmanlike conduct is not the only penalty that players can be fouled/fined (players could be fined thousands of dollars) when it pertains to excessive competitive violence. Many players can be ejected from the game or even suspended from the game(with or without pay). The reason for this occurrence is because excessive competitive violence can cause serious injuries and could even cause death. This does not only include mainstream/televised players. This also includes youth groups such as young as elementary school, middle school ,and high schools.

Youth sport violence coincides with excessive competitive violence. Its violence that happens between youth spectators. Youth spectators do not only include youths, in addition to the statement made previously the spectators can include parents, coaches, and game officials. The youths violence holds the same penalties as the mainstream/televised players and spectators (without suspended pay). For many youth players transitioning from a highschool to a college sport is more difficult due to the many more amount of spectators and the different atmospheres. Such as is media. Playing a sport in college is more than likely to be televised. Which ultimately will help with being scouted for mainstream teams. But could also show all the sides of violence in the sport.

Media has a key role in sport violence. It can show the at home spectators what's going on in sports from their, which is not necessarily all angles. From news channels to special sporting channels the sport spectators at home can see every angle of every game on or off the field. Whether it be hockey, football,soccer, or basketball the media covers it all. With that being said sports violence being televised can show you everything such a excessive violence or spectator violence.

It can even portray negative sport violence. With media filming all aspects of sports it can show many different spectators in violent or aggressive acton from players, coaches, game officials or even spectators.

To sum up everything that has been stated, the impact on sport violence is a very serious matter. Sports violence isn't only on mainstream platforms but is on all platforms. Whether it's youths or people you see on the media.The impact is still the same.It starts with acknowledging that the violent culture of sports needs to have a change. And it should start sooner than later The importance of the violent culture inside of sports should have some type of repercussions.
