Statistics

A couple of important things to note:
Statistically Significant (Analytics) – means that the research “Math” shows something happened. This is proven in one of two ways. Either the absolute value of the test statistics that is calculated is greater than the critical value of the test usually found in a table OR the p-value calculated from the test statistic is less than or = to a pre-determined risk amount know as alpha (α), which unless otherwise stated is 0.05 or 5%.
Clinically Significant (real world) – means that what was found has relevance to the health care practice. A study about an irrelevant topic (has little or no effect on patients would not be clinically significant. To support this one needs to do additional research to determine if this is the case.
Means are a measure of center and Standard Deviations and range are a measure of variability or dispersal.
Opinions and what is expected should be evidence based, and thus supported by outside research and cited
APA FORMAT : Name the test, what variable/s and how they are computed. State the statistical conclusion. Give the statistics (see example in Exercise for correct way to represent these statistics) State the experimental conclusion or conclusions that the researchers came to.
Answers other than calculations will be found in the study in the Introduction, Relevant Study Results, or a table of values, and the Statistical Technique in Review.
Before you state you may want to view the video found in “Questions to Instructor” that uses the EXAMPLE as its guide.
Exercise # 33
Yes or No and support your answer with statistical proof from your calculation in SPSS. Describe what it means to have homogeneity of variance or not. What Test? The rational should include the evidence that there is or is not significant differences. See heading “Statistical Significance”
By hand or using SPSS create the graph of the frequency distribution of hours work. SPSS Copy and paste here or do a screen shot
Describe the shape of the distribution.
Describe what the shapiro-wilk test of normality results were and what they mean. See page 282 exercise 26 for refresher on how to address the issue of normality SPSS Copy and paste here or do a screen shot
List the means of the three groups and support your answers with the screen shot from SPSS SPSS Copy and paste here or do a screen shot
List the F value and both the group and error df for this set of data. State each separately
SPSS Copy and paste here or do a screen shot
Describe the F value and how it was arrived at by describing each of the statistical parts required.
Support answer as to if F is significant with at least one statistical comparison Each component should be documented where it was derived from.
SPSS Copy and paste here or do a screen shot
Answer the question as asked. This should be a %
Answer the question as asked. The rationale should provide statistical results that support the answer.
Answer the questions as asked. All aspects of the APA format are present. The method for writing the final interpreation in APA format of results from research is demonstated in the exercise
This answer should discuss similarities and differences between the two tests. Be sure to include any cautions about the results
