As I mentioned before, there are thousands of thousands of treatments and cures of basil. Every countries might have different kind of method of using basil to treat and cure people since they were living in different climate and elevation because those factors could affect people to have diseases. However, basil was considered as one of the greatest herbs in the world because it helps to treat and cure their diseases. Below are some example of how basil could help people in treatments and cures.

When someone wants to quit smoking and he is on the urge of smoking, he could try to eat a basil leave and it would help him to relief his desire of smoking. To be honest, I do not know what particular part or element in the basil could make people to relief the feeling of smoking, but it is a method for the people who want to quit smoking.
Lastly, like I said before, there are tons of treatments and cures that included basil, those example that I talked about are just the tip of the iceberg. After I have these research of basil, I realized that basil is such a good plant in the world. I never thought how this tiny plant could people that much in their life. I would say people have been rely on basil for a while since it exists in so many scenes in people life. I do not know how the basil was created and why it so helpful to people, and I think this is what we called the magic of the nature.
Growth habitats
Basil is widely growing in tropical area, such as India, China, Vietnam and so on. Basil is sensitive in the winter as it could not grow well under a cold weather. Basil needs to be grown under a hot and dried area, so tropical area is the best place for basil to grow. Lastly, we could make the basil into basil juice to treat snake bites, which is a very useful method.
In conclusion, basil plays a significant role to people because it helps people a lot in their life like cooking, treatment and so on. Basil is not just a plant to people but it is a friend of us because it accompanies us when we are sick, hungry or whenever we need them.
Short Introduction about faulty argument:
I noticed that there are some faulty arguments in my citing resources when I wrote my first part of the plant research paper. It is undeniable that these faulty argument take a significant role in helping my reader to more deeply understand the concept of my paper. However, these faulty arguments that existing in my paper might let my reader not exactly
notice the disadvantage of my logic. For instance, in some sentences, I make some direct claim in order to have my readers to believe something is true, which is what we called “Dogmatism” in the field of faulty argument. In addition, I also have appeal to authority as part of the faulty argument in my paper. I quoted some data from a website and used it to prove my point of view, but I did not know how accurate the website is.
1. Either/Or & Slippery Slope
In my paper, I used a quote from an article called “10 Uses for Basil Leaf” to help people to understand the benefit that basil brings to us. “A facial steam with dried basil leaf can help alleviate a headache. Add a tablespoon of dried basil leaf to 2 cups of boiling water in a large pot. Carefully lean over the pot, cover head with a towel and breathe in the steam for 5-10 minutes until headache starts to subside.(Katie)”, The reason that we considered this as a faulty argument is that the second part of the this paragraph might not be the result of the first part. In the first part, the author mentioned that a facial steam with boiling dried basil leaf can alleviate a headache; however we do not know what particular makes the contribution to alleviate a headache. It could be the steam itself helps to alleviate a headache even without the dried basil leaf. The author falsely assumes the first part leads to the second part as a result , hence it is a faulty argument.
2. Prejudice & Stereotypes:
There is another example of faulty argument existing in my quotation resource that I used in my paper. In the article called “Medical use of basil” written by Doug Larson, it stated that “Basil is a member of the Mint family, and like most other mints, is mainly used in medicine for its digestive and anti-gas properties(Larson).” The reason why it is a faulty argument is that the author falsely assumes that most of the basil is used for medical purpose, and the word “most” shows prejudice. However, basil is not just used for medical purposes. Basil is also widely used in general cooking as seasoning in many countries like Italy, Vietnam, and China. The use of basil in cooking is even more general that the use for medical purposes. Since the author shows the his prejudice in the sentence, it is considered as a faulty argument.
3. Appeal to Authority:
When I was reading one of my quotation resource article, I accidentally found a faulty argument. In the website “ The world’s Healthiest Food”, there is an article called “Basil” which I used some quotes in my paper. It stated that “Additional information about the amount of these nutrients provided by Basil can be found in the Food Rating System Chart. A link that takes you to the In-Depth Nutritional Profile for Basil, featuring information over 80 nutrients, can be found under the Food Rating System Chart.” The reason why it is a faulty argument is that it is appeal to authority. The author somehow tries to convince the reader by what else wrote on others websites, as if it provides evidence to resolve the original problem, but the author has no ideas if the website that he is using has the correct information.
4. Red Herring:
Another example of faulty argument I found in my quotation resource is in the article called “What Is Basil Good For?” from the website FoodFacts. It stated that “Basil also provides vitamin A, which contains beta-carotenes, powerful antioxidants that protect the cells lining a number of numerous body structures, including the blood vessels, from free radical damage. This helps prevent cholesterol in blood from oxidizing, helping to prevent atherosclerosis, heart attacks, and stroke.” This is a faulty argument of red herring, since it distracts people’s attention from basil to Vitamin A. As we know, Vitamin A is a good element that benefits people’s body, but we do not know how much Vitamin A in a particular basil. It might be just a tiny amount that it is not enough to help people’s body. What the author trying to do is to convert people’s attention, since red herring is the most effective method to have readers to stand on the author’s point of view.

Please try my basil tea. According to a newspaper, it is very effective to treat headache. (Appeal to Authority) Most of the people who have headache had tried this tea, so you have to try this if you have headache problem. (bandwagon)
Mythology:
Basil is considering as the most useful and common herbs in the world, and since it is an easy growing herbs, it is widely planted in many countries like China, India, Italy, Malaysia,Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, and so on. Although the “basil” comes from a Greek word βασιλικόν φυτόν, which means royal plant, it was first found and recorded in India in about five thousands years ago. Basil plays a significant role in the Italian cuisine, most of the Italian food contains basil since it is a prominently featured in Italian food. Not only the Italian Cuisine, but also many Asian food contains basil in it. Such as Vietnamese food, Chinese food, and thailand food. In addition, not only in the field of cooking that basil is contributing a huge effort, but also basil helps people a lot in treatment as a herb. Such as curing headache, sprain, and so on. Basil is not only a plant or a herb, but it is also a friend of human because it makes a huge sacrifice in cooking and treating for people. However, since basil is existing in the human history for a long time( as I mentioned it was first found in India about 5000 years ago), it is many folklore, myths, and superstition about how the basil is doing in people’s life.
As we all know, basil takes a significant role in Italian cuisine since most of the Italian food contains basil as ingredient. Basil is not only a general cooking herb, but also it is a symbol of love. The movie “The Decameron”, which also known as “Prince Galehaut”, is a novellas collection by the 14th-century Italian author Giovanni Boccaccio. It is considered as a masterpiece of classical early Italian prose and one of the most famous literature. This book has a frame story including 100 tales told by a group of 7 young women and 3 young men avoiding in a secluded villa just out of Florence to escepe the Black Death. In the book, one of the most famous scene is that the character Giovanni Boccaccio made it to symbolize the tragic love in between the relationship of Lorenzo and Lisabettain The Decameron. The Roman Catholic Church, priests, and religious belief became the satirical source of comedy throughout. It was part of a wider historical trend in the aftermath of the Black Death. Basil ,as being a symbol of love in Italy, is considered a romantic symbol in the period. In Sicilian folklore, basil associates with both love and death. It represents love in one side, which means people could fall in love with each other. However, on the other side, it also associates with death. This is two opposite side of the symbol. In deep, what does it mean is that people could fall in love with symbol, but also could died for their lover, which means they are willing to make sacrifice for each other. In addition, in Moldavian folklore , if a young man accepts basil from a young woman , then they will fall in love with each other. In addition, the European used basil as detector of love. A husband could ask his wife to hold a spring of basil in her hand and it could detect whether his wife is royal and faithful or not. If the basil in her hand was shriveled, then it could tell that she is unfaithful. Another, tradition belief of basil is that when a person smell a spring of basil, then he or she would attract a new lover. So I suggest that if you are still single, do not worry and go ahead and buy a ton of basil to smell everyday and you will find a new lover soon. Another popular folklore that suggested if a young maiden wanted to have a lover, she had to grow some basil and in a years times a new suitor would show up.
In Europe, it is often conflicted on the subject of basil. Basil produces a merry and cheerful heart while Culpeper’s links it to poison through the observation of its effects in drawing venom out of wounds and the proclamation that “like draws to like.” European saying that basil can produce scorpions, possibly even inside someone’s skull. This is a superstition of basil. Technically it is not true in a obvious way, but people tend to believe it as too good to be true. Perhaps it is just a lie to scare in the past, and as time goes by, people keep transferring this message over time and it became more and more reliable. This is how superstition were told by people. This scorpion connection frequently were told with the Greek story of the basilisk, which in turn is linked to basilicum. In addition, in some European folklore, basil is often used to prevent both the look and bite of serpents. Perhaps basil has some magical ingredient that could prevent serpents. Again, this might not be true because no one knows or has the evidence to prove this, but what is more important is that in people’s mind, it gives people a psychological effect meaning when they were bitten by a serpent, the basil gives them a confidence that the basil is going to help them to treat the bite.
Besides the folklore of basil in the Europe, there are also numerous folklore in the Asian countries. For example, basil has an important religious significance in India. As I mentioned before, India was the first country who found and recorded basil in the literature. Holy basil, which also known as Tulsi in India, is considered as a sacred plant with Tulasi and Vishnu. This is another tangled love story with couple variation. Purification, protection, eternal life, and love are considered the Hindu tradition associates holy basil since it is usually used in burial rituals. This is a very famous love story in India and many people know it. Indians often kept Holy Basil in their home for protection against evil, and they believe in basil has a healing properties. In addition, basil also associated with the story of voodoo love goddess Erzuli. Erzuli is is the Haitian African spirit of love, luxury, jewelry, dancing, beauty, and flowers. It is recorded that divination and ensuring faithfulness were used in love spells. Many European like to put a spring basil into their pocket in order to bring them wealth and safety sprinkling it on the ground to avert evil and setting it near door and cash register to attract customer. This is considered as a superstition of basil. The reason is that it obviously has no scientific evidence to support that to put a spring of basil into people’s pocket could bring the wealth. However, although it is not true technically, we do have to respect this tradition because this is what people’s belief and this is the culture of their nation. In Greece, basil were believed representing the power to aid in divination, once was used as a means to detect witches. When basil was being burned, one of the most famous methods used by the ancient Greeks was to simply name out suspected witches. When it makes a sound like calling a name, it tells people who was practicing witchcraft. The ancient Hebrews took Basil for strength and courage when the middle eastern people took it as an herb of mourning. In the Christian tradition, basil has a rumors ,which is said to have grown at the site of Christ’s crucifixion. In St. Basil feast day celebrations in Greece, basil is also a part of the celebrations.
In the traditional Chinese culture, the words basil means a nine floors tower in Chinese. One story describes how this name came from is “nine” means many since it has many leaves and the structure of the basil looks like a tower. There is another more interested story about how “nine floors tower” came from. In the ancient Chinese period, a emperor was visiting a place. Suddenly, there was a huge flood coming to the place where the emperor visiting. Then, the emperor was forced to shelter into a nine floor tower in order to avoid the flood. However, the emperor and his fellas were lack of food in that tower, and the only thing that they found in that tower is basil. So, the emperor and his fellas ate basil and survived at the end. This is how name of nine floor tower came from in the traditional Chinese culture. After this event, the used of basil in China became more and more widely. It was even treated as a lucky plant, and people wanted to keep them in their house praying for safety and health in the Chinese culture. Basil is also widely used in Chinese herbology. Basil has the ability to treat headache, fever, cold, and many other illness. Rumours the people who are going to hiking should keep some basil in their pocket because the basil has an abillity to prevent bitten by the snake
.
In conclusion, basil is one of the greatest plant and herb in the world. Not only because of the use in general cooking in many countries’ food, but also because of its ability to treat many different disease. Since basil has a long history in people’s life, the folklore and superstition relating to basil were interested to learn and know, but we should have our own ability to classify the authority of these folklore and superstition. We should be aware of these superstition stories of basil since most of them had no scientific evidence to support the truth behind it.
As we all know, there are countless of plants in the world. They are all unique as the chemical compounds that they have are different. Some of them are very useful to people, and some of them are just waste of time for people. However, as we know, basil is definitely one of the most useful and beneficial plants to people in the world. Basil is not only useful in general cooking for Italian cuisine, Asian cuisine and so on, but it also takes a significant role in treatment to many diseases. The chemical components might be one of the answers. There are so many chemical components in all kinds of basil. Every different kind of basil might have different components, and these mixtures of different components are making huge sacrifices to many different treatment of disease.
According to Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of Basil, basil mainly contains methyl eugenol and methyl chavicol as the chemical compounds. It stated that basil was helpful against Gram-positive, Gram-negative bacteria, and it has the ability of bactericidal. Furthermore, basil can mainly divided into four groups based on their chemical content. They are French, which is Ocimum basilicum, exotic, methyl cinnamate, and eugenol. Different kind of basil might have different smells since it has different portion of essential oils that made it together. For example, sweet basil has a strong clove scent because it is from the chemical component eugenol in the body of basil. In addition, lemon basil and lime basil has a citrus scent due to the fact that they both have a high portion of citral and limonene. Another example would be African blue basil. It has a highly camphor smell due to its component of camphene and camphor. Additionally, Anise basil, which also known as Licorice basil, has anethole, which made it smell like licorice. There are still so many more chemicals that make up the smell of basil, and it mainly depends on the proportion of chemicals that they have. Such as Linalyl acetate ,fenchyl acetate,trans-ocimene, terpineol, citronellol, myrcene, and eugenol.
Short Introduction about medical evidence:
Basil is a kind of spices plant and contains estragole but just very few proportion, and basil was once suspected to cause cancer because of estragole that basil has. In 1981, the report of JECFA about organization doubt that it has carcinogenicity, which could lead people to have cancer. This report is based on a experiment using mouses. However, after a long time period of researching and experiment, biologist declared that estragole is not affecting people’s bodies and has no other unhealthy reactions to people. Therefore, there are no countries required nor regulated to not using basil in cooking food or making other herbs. Basil is now a well-known safety food material, and it is widely used in spices, drinking, and food.
Chemical components:
The holy basil, which is also known as Tulsi, was an indigenous plant that were first found in India. Due to its huge curing ability, it was almost used in every single family in India. It is not only has a favorable scent, but it also rumours to have an ability of longevity. Everyone do not want to die and live for a longer time period, so Tulsi was very popular in India due to its longevity. Tulsi has hundreds of benefit compounds, and it has a strong ability of anti-oxidation, antiviral, compassive capacity, and enhance immunity. According to a daily newspaper, every four cup of fresh basil, it contains 1% of calcium, potassium, magnesium, folic acid; 31% of vitamin K; 6% of vitamin A; 2% of vitamin A.
Medical or clinical studies:
Clinical experiment has proved that basil of the ability of anti-oxidation, anti-viral and many other useful and healthy treatment. For example, Preventing mosquito bites would be one of the result from clinical experiment of basil. It is very effective to prevent mosquito bites. If we put a basil in particular area, then in this surrounding area would have no mosquito. I actually tried this method and this is very useful. I remember that last week, my house were having many mosquitoes. It was very annoying to see so many mosquitoes. And then I tried this method putting some alive basil in my house. After a while, mosquitoes were obviously disappearing. This is one of the most effective methods to get rid of mosquitoes because the properties of anti mosquitoes that basil has. Whenever you feel you have trouble with mosquitoes, just use the basil and this is a very powerful weapon to kill mosquitoes. However, if you were bitten by mosquitoes unfortunately, please do not worry and calm down because I am going to show you a very helpful method to cure it. We can broke some basil into powder and we can put these powder to the wound. The wound would be curing in a very effective way. In addition ,in some natural cure, it is proved by some biologist that the juice of basil could successfully to cure ringworm and many other skin disease. In thailand, there was clinical experiment showed that the ability of antibacterial that basil had could effectively cure hemorrhoids and prevent the germ from growing. Additionally, the place under humid climate might experiencing fever and cold a lot due to its climate. However basil could help these people who are living in humid climate area. A cup of basil could be helpful in the treatment of fever, cold and many other humid climate disease. Basil has the chemical component that could prevent fever and cold.
Basil was also a magical herb for the people who want to quit smoking. Basil has a strong ability of anti stress. This kind of properties that basil had could help people to calm down when they are facing a serious situation like smoking. It helps people to relax themselves when they are trying to smoke, and calm the feeling of desiring to smoke down. By the way, if you, or your friends are having troubles with quitting smoking, I would highly recommended you to use basil as the herb cure to help you out with quitting smoking. This is a very useful method to quit smoking because basil could really help people to relax their feeling of desiring to smoke when they want to smoke. Additionally, there was a clinical experiment concluded that facial stream with dry basil leaf could helpfully to reduce headache. The stream with dried basil leaf contains the chemical component to reduce the pain from headache and relaxing your head. Basil also protect and prevent heart disease because it lowers cholesterol in the blood pressure. I did try this method whenever I feel like headache, and this is a very useful method to relax your head when you have a headache because basil stream could lower your blood pressure. Moreover, basil could help to regulate our stomach. Basil was one of the best herb cure for diarrhea and throwing up. To sum it up, there are numerous clinical experiment and life example of basil to cure disease. It is extremely helpful to use basil as herb cure to some disease, but we have to understand well and do research or ask a professional doctor about which kind of basil should we used to cure a particular disease because there are hundreds of different basil in the world and they might have different chemical components. However, one thing that we do need to pay attention about using herb cure. We have to know which particular herb to use for a disease and learn about if they are effective in curing such a disease. If we put a wrong basil to cure an unrelated disease, its result would be serious. It might cause you to have worse situation and it is wasting your time and effort. We do not want to waste our time to some unuseful herb to treat people’s treatment. We might know that basil is ordinary plant because it does not have a very good looking like lavender, rose, and many other plant, but basil is definitely considered as one of the most useful and helpful plant in the world due to its contribution to people’s general cooking like Italian cuisine, Vietnamese cuisine, and Chinese cuisine and its contribution to herb cure. The position of basil for human is definitely not just a plant, but it also is a close to human due to the sacrifice that basil contributed to us.

Conclusion
A lot of studies such as Purdue University has recorded that there are various health benefits associated with the use of basil. According to Purdue University, basil contains so many essential oils that are rich in phenolic compounds and other natural products such as polyphenols like the flavonoids and anthocyanin (Whfoods). Further, it contains elements such as beta-caryophyllene that is fundamental in the treatment of arthritis and inflammatory bowel. There are various areas in which basil compounds or herbs are used. First, it applies to DNA Protection Plus Anti-bacterial activities in which its flavonoid properties offer protection to the cellular cell. For instance, it has orientin and vicenin which are compounds of flavonoids found in basil and has significant medicinal value to white cells (Whfoods). The two compounds help in protecting cell structure and the chromosomes against radiation and threat of damage by oxygen. Also, mixtures of basil have potential aid to protect the body against unwanted bacterial growth. The volatile oils of the basil herb have a stern protection mechanism against the growth of undesirable bacterial infection due to the presence of linalool, eugenol, and myrcene among other compounds (Whfoods). Similarly, oils derived from its leaves can inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria, hence making it be the most preferred composition of the antibiotic drugs. It is also preferred for food preservation and as an additive in uncooked foods such as salads. The addition of basil does not only provide health or nutritional value but also add taste and flavor to fresh greens, thus making it safe to consume.
Secondly, basil is widely applied in medicine as an anti-inflammatory agent. The components of the basil herb such as the volatile oil have proven to be effective in blocking the activity of an enzyme cyclooxygenase. Because of this effect of enzyme-inhibiting derived from eugenol compound which is an element of basil, it, therefore, qualifies it as an anti-inflammatory agent (Whfoods).
