TECHNOLOGY AND GLOBAL CIVILIZATION

Technology has changed the way human beings undertake their tasks in their day to day

lives. Technology has risen as a result of education, and in another way, education has been

promoted by technology. The use of technology has been the critical element that drives the

western civilization that has since been adopted as a global civilization. However, technology is

not sufficient in shaping global culture. This paper will discuss how integrating technology,

education, empathy, and the arts to promote a better global civilization scenario.

Research indicates that every human being is capable of being critical as well as being

empathetic. However, this research goes further to suggest that a human being is not capable of

doing both things at the same time. It must have to consider that thinking helps every individual

have an area of scientific sense. One can enhance their skills of making a judgment by ensuring

that there is a balance between both neural functions of the brain, critical and empathy. This will

help in achieving neural integration that helps in breaking down the science into several

disciplines. Mr. Ma indicates that ‘integrative awareness is especially important today as our

science-driven technologically driven advanced world’(278). The empathic ability will enable in

understanding other cultures deeply and therefore make connections that science and overall

education have since failed to establish. These connections will play a significant role in shaping

the global thinking circuit that a more refined global civilization will be formed. Moreover,

empathy serves the purpose of developing the human ability to acknowledge one another as one

sizeable human family across the globe. This will help in alleviating problems such as racial

discrimination, ethnic discrimination, human trafficking, among others.

At this age of global civilization, technology connected people from all over the world.

So there’s a state of global competition between all fields. Including military, scientific,

economic, sports, education, art, etc. The global civilization focuses on education; everyone was

competing with each other in the world; power is education and excellence skills. However, this

is deemed as a short-sighted approach to forming the globalization on. Since empathy serves as a

thread in technological disciples and social life, a check on the driver and factors that promote

understanding should be done to ensure that it is harnessed. In this case, Arts is the most

excellent promoter of empathy. Integrating arts in the core subjects of math, science,

engineering, and technology is a vital step for global civilization to flourish. Ma indicates that

‘the value behind arts integration is a collaboration, flexible thinking and disciplined

imagination’(280). This is important to show that the value created by integrating arts is

immense. Arts can promote collaborative and flexible thinking. The camera case continues to

make strong depictions that here are ‘things that one would rather not see than see’ (301)as

indicated by Paumgarten. These indications in the case scenario, draw the nature of human

nature and society. Human nature is based on exploring different things. And out of curiosity and

the urge to do more with their lives, human beings find themselves getting into words that end up

destroying their value rather than creating value. These two, in turn, promote disciplined thinking

and therefore fostering the ability to innovate on a large scale. The innovations that come up, as a

result, depict the right balance of work between educational perspectives and social perspectives.

Attaining the best balance of life is shape a better global civilization perspective. The

human society is formed on the foundations of life, and the space that is created in humans bring

about the impending death. Empathy is a crucial element that helps a human being on matters of

approaching life as well as approaching the agony that comes with death. It is baffling to think of

the medical cost most individuals incur at the impending end of their lives despite being in

knowing that death is inevitable. The matters about death and life are among the most

contentious issues about global civilization. In Africa, for example, individuals are more

empathetic about death more than they are empathetic about living. Mr. Ma highlights that

‘empathy comes when you understand something deeply through arts.’(281) This is important to

show that the case presents among the challenges global civilization is facing in its bid to create

more value in life. By creating more value to life will have a balance in creating innovations for

development as well as considering the factors that could diminish the value of human life. The

case scenario on ‘we are a camera’ by Paumgarten tries to bring out the social aspects that make

human beings similar in how we carry on our tasks. The camera case present scenario where the

joy of missing the shot becomes more significant than the experience one attains and makes it

worth shooting again creates exceptional value in life.

Globalization creates cultures. The impact technology has had in making the globe

accessible through harnessing communication and transportation is immense. As a result of

information passing, global culture has been created. This global culture is among the

constituents of the global civilization. Music, for example, has had a significant impact. A case

example is the Hip-hop culture that began in the United States. ‘Through the narrative by

Paumgarten, there are indications that the North Africans share some cultures with the

Zhou 4

Spaniards.’(300) This culture has spread across the world as a result of the spread of hip-hop

music. In areas where this culture has infiltrated, new civilizations have risen, which are an

intermediate between the native culture and the foreign culture. These new cultures, therefore,

led to new connections among people of different geographical locations of the globe. Another

case example is the case of the west and north African dances that have infiltrated into Spain and

the countries of South America. This scenario has created a connection between the people of

both places.

The camera story depicts the real scenario that can help in solving problems in a global

civilization. The camera story, brings together art, empathy as well as education in an integrated

model and therefore depicting a better framework for global civilization.
