Question to be answered for this assignment is

“Does play based education benefit children in early education?”

This will not be a topic from in the book required for this course. That is ok. If you read an assignment requirement stating it needs to be from the book, disregard those lines.

Here are the assignment instructions:

1) You will pick one topic that we have explored throughout the course/book or one that falls under the umbrella of abnormal psychology but wasn't discussed.

2) Then you'll identify a question you would like answered, a research question if you will, that will help you hone in on what you are looking for in the research. What and How type questions work well here.

3) Find three studies that address an element of your research question. If you have questions about your topic, research question, and/or finding studies email me. I'm happy to help.

Layout: The first paragraph is the paraphrased (in your own words) summary of the study, hitting those specific elements of goal, hypothesis, participants, methods, and results. h should summarize the main essence of the study to include; a brief description of the purpose/goal/hypothesis of the study, the participants (who, how many, etc...), how the study was conducted (methods section), and the results. DO NOT use the study's abstract. It all should be in your own words as if you were explaining "this recent study you read" to someone. How would you explain/describe it to help that person understand its essence, in a professional voice?  Then the 2nd paragraph will include your critical thoughts about the study (e.g., methods section) and the topic itself (any aha - lightbulb or hmm - curiosity moments?), and how it addresses your research question. Make sure you are descriptive and expansive. The sources have to be studies, published after the year 2000 and do not use case studies, meta-analyses, or literature reviews. These will not give you the information you need to adequately address the above prompts.

Format: The final three (3) annotated bibliographies should be submitted as one document (not 3 separate files, only one file) in either .doc or .pdf format. All three will be connected to the research question that you have identified within abnormal psychology. One annotated bibliography per page, 400-word count for each AB, meaning you will want to use the page break feature in Word to present each AB on its own page (see sample in AB resource folder). Once the file with the three annotated bibliographies is submitted, return to the submission area and check the SafeAssign similarity report. The report should reflect only replication in the citation references, not within the paragraphs of content. Two attempts are allowed. I will grade the last attempt only.

Requirements

1)  The studies selected for review are found in a peer-reviewed journal (No books, blogs, websites, manuals, reports, magazine articles etc).

2) N/A

3)  The studies were published within the last ten years.

4)  The research question or hypothesis can be identified. *This means it is a study with a methods and results section.

5)  Students must provide a fully developed, clear, and grammatically correct response to each prompt. Proof your work...get Grammarly (it's free), have someone read it, or read it out loud.

a. Paragraph one: Summarize and paraphrase (in your own words) the study. Here are some prompts that should be addressed as well as any other pertinent information. What is the goal/purpose of the study? What is the research question or hypothesis? How did they go about conducting the study (participants, methods, etc...)? What are the results, what did they find?

b. Paragraph two: This will be different depending on the specific AB assignment requirements. Check the instructions for that particular AB.

6)  An APA citation is required for each article (The sample has APA format, use that as your reference/template). Many of you are pursuing career fields that will require APA. Best get familiar with it now.

7)  Check the completed annotated bibliography against the grading rubric. In My Grades, next to the assignment, you'll see a rubric icon that you can open. That will provide you with the grading criteria for the assignment.

8)  For the final (3) submission - Once the file with the three annotated bibliographies is submitted, return to the submission area and check the SafeAssign similarity report.  The report should be less than 35% inclusive of the template prompts, the two paragraphs. The citation will most likely appear in safe-assign, content in the 2 paragraphs should not be. Two attempts are allowed.  I will grade the last attempt only.

FAQ

1) What topic(s) are the AB's supposed to be about?

a. For the AB's that fall within a specific chapter module, the instructions will specify that the topic selected needs to be found within one of the current module chapters

b. For the Final AB (a collection of three total), the studies must all support a research question that you identify.  Start first with identifying an area of interest now that you've been exposed to the majority of life-span content from the book.  Then identify a question related to that topic/area/age you are curious to know about. It could be, but not limited to, the cause or effects of something, the influence or impact on something, the outcomes or consequences of something, etc. Think of the 5 questions, who, what, when, where, and how. One of those will be used in your research question. I suggest you pick a topic/theme that is not only of interest to you but is an area within your future career field.

2) Can my research question be related to a chapter/topic not addressed in the book?

Yes.  You are welcome to peruse a topic or theme for the final three AB collection that may not have been discussed in the book. It still has to cover some life-span elements though, related to a specific age group(s).

3)  What if the studies do not support the information found in the book?

It is okay. Discuss this in your second paragraph if a chapter connection is required for that specific assignment.
