For this assignment, you will write a paper describing the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Workforce. Follow the steps below, which describe the assignment in more detail.

1. Investigate the impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Workforce With the rapid growth of AI, experts are predicting that intelligent software and robots will revolutionize jobs that are being performed by humans today, with some even claiming that AI will result in the end of work as we know it. These predictions are often based on pure speculation as there is currently a lack of data in terms of what jobs are being replaced by AI, the rate of progress of AI and what new jobs are emerging due to AI. In class, we discussed jobs that will be eliminated by AI, jobs that will be augmented by AI and jobs that can only be done by humans. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many deeper issues related to these topics and there are also many other issues that we did not cover. In your final report, you will do a deeper dive into the subject of AI and the workforce. In particular, you will do a thorough investigation into two topics of your choice of how AI will impact the workforce. Your report must answer the following questions for each topic you choose to investigate:

1. What is the impact of AI on the workforce? 2. What data supports your answer to (1)? 3. Who will be most impacted and is this impact good, bad or unclear?

2. Resources You may use material from the three articles we discussed in class on this topic but please cite the articles if you use anything from them. In addition, for each topic, your report must cite at least one other credible news article (and preferably more) beyond the articles that we discussed in class. Paper requirements Your paper should be typed and should be 1000-1500 words long (4-6 pages, single spaced, not including the list of references). It should synthesize all of the information outlined in the steps above into a cohesive narrative that smoothly connects the two topics you write about. In addition, you must answer the three questions listed above for each topic that you cover. In addition, your paper should meet the following requirements:

● Your writing should use correct grammar and spelling. ● Your writing should follow a cohesive narrative, including an introduction, arguments,

and a conclusion. It should be well organized and well structured. You should use full sentences and break your writing into paragraphs. You are encouraged to break your paper into titled sections, as appropriate.

● You must include in-text citations for all of your sources in a recognized citation format (e.g. APA, MLA, or IEEE).

● All cited sources should be listed in a reference list at the end of the paper. This should be in a recognized format (e.g. APA, MLA, or IEEE).

○ Do not include the reference list in the word count when gauging the length of your paper.

● All cited sources should be high-quality, relevant, credible sources. ○ Use ​the tools we discussed in class​ to assess the quality of your sources.

● Your writing must be free of plagiarism. ○ If you’re not sure what constitutes plagiarism, you should review ​the lecture notes

on writing for this course​ as well as ​the course syllabus​.

Grading criteria This assignment is worth 60 total points, broken down as follows:

● 25 points – Topic 1 on how AI impacts the workforce: ○ 10 points: The impact is clearly described, synthesized and analyzed. ○ 10 points: The evidence for this impact is convincing and appropriately chosen. ○ 5 points: The outcome (good, bad, unclear) is clearly described and supported

by evidence ● 25 points – Topic 2 on how AI impacts the workforce:

○ 10 points: The impact is clearly described, synthesized and analyzed. ○ 10 points: The evidence for this impact is convincing and appropriately chosen. ○ 5 points: The outcome (good, bad, unclear) is clearly described and supported by

evidence ● 5 points – All facts, figures, definitions, laws, etc. have appropriate in-text citations in a

recognized format (e.g. APA, MLA, IEEE). Full references for all citations are listed at the end of the paper in a recognized format. All sources are high-quality, relevant, and credible.

● 5 points – Your writing is free of grammatical and spelling errors. It is well organized, well structured, and logically cohesive. It is free of plagiarism.
