Question 2.0
Outline
1. First, please refer to the Module 7 Final Essay assignment and the course materials.
In response to the instructions, please provide a one-page outline of your essay. As part of your outline, please provide a thesis statement in direct response to the essay question and a list of course materials that you anticipate will help you in crafting your arguments. It is understood that this will be a rough sketch of your eventual essay, so please try to keep the outline no longer than one page. This is an extra credit assignment worth 5 points. (Even though it is listed as zero points, the extra credit points can still be awarded for this assignment.)
Main Essay
2. Essay Instructions: In a double-spaced essay of at least 1,200 words, please respond directly and completely to the following question:
How should the U.S. government prepare for current and future threats in relation to International Humanitarian Law (IHL)? Using some of the ideas discussed in the course readings, first select one or two (not more) of the following issues covered in the course: gender and conflict, war crimes, perfidy and ruses, cyberattacks, and/or regulating weapons and autonomous weapons systems. Then, explain how emerging threats should be addressed based on one or perhaps two IHL core principles (e.g., necessity, distinction, proportionality, humanity).
Please be specific and make clear references to core ideas and debates covered in the class.
No additional research is required. In fact, please try to avoid doing any additional outside research unless you feel this is necessary for your argument.
