Final Project Proposal: Painting America’s Native Tribes
This project will involve coming up with a painting depicting American Nationalism with a keen focus on the native tribes of the Americas. These native tribes include the American Indians and the Alaska Natives. The project was inspired by depictions of nationalism by painters such as Frida Kahlo. Kahlo in her painting “Moses” depicts the images of the native Mexican tribes such as the Aztecs along with depictions of other prominent civilizations and people of the world (Helland,2018). The goal of this project is to bring attention to the plight of native tribes in many parts of the world. The native communities such as the Aborigines in Australia and also the native communities of the Americans continue to be marginalized and are often mistreated.
The project idea developed from my learning of the use of art to spread nationalistic ideas. Apart from Frida Kahlo from whom my project draws lots of inspiration, other artists who used art to spread nationalistic ideologies are Tagore. For my project, however, the major focus is to spread the culture, history, and general identity of the native communities in America. This is to enable them to enjoy the benefits of being in the US, prevent further segregation, help preserve their culture and also make them be appreciated for their contributions to society as it is today.
