Final Essay Project Requirements

Compare and contrast two objects, or two artifacts, or two architectural structures from two different cultures (periods in art history) we have studied over the second half of the semester:

• You need to have a minimum of 800 words

• Embed the images of the objects, artifacts, or architectural structures

• Include the assessment of physical properties = objective information / the facts • artist name or the person who commissioned the object, artifact, or architectural structure • the name of the object, artifact, or architectural structure • the date the work was made • size of the work, (if applicable) • materials / medium – what was it made of…you should be able to research this- • Technique – how was it made… you should be able to research this- • does it have an apparent function?

• It is required your Final Essay Project include the following: 1. The introduction – name the two cultures and the two objects, artifacts, or architectural structures, explain

briefly why you chose these two cultures. 2. Embed the two images of the objects, artifacts, or architectural structures 3. Include the assessment of physical properties of the two objects, artifacts, or architectural structures 4. The “body of your essay” - refer to the Final Essay Project Required Prompts – (next slide) 5. A conclusion – explain one concept that stood out for you from your research

• At least three references you are using for this project, it can be links to websites.

The essay needs to include, this would be the body of your essay:

• discuss the similarities of the two cultures

• discuss the differences of the two cultures

• reflect on how the two cultures might have influenced each other

• what was the use of the object, artifact, or architectural structure

• who made, designed, or commissioned the object, artifact, or architectural structure

• the cultural context of the civilization in relation to how the object, artifact, or architectural structure was used during the time it was made

• what was the material of the object, artifact, or architectural structure, (what was it made of?)

• how did the material of the object, artifact, or architectural structure influence the style of the object

• include any visual signification or symbolism of the object, artifact, or architectural structure

• from what you learned regarding these two objects, artifacts, or architectural structures which one do you like best and why
