For the Final Project, I want you to come up with a creative Project idea (hypothetical/mock). This can be anything including creating a new eCommerce store, starting a new Mobile App business, or manufacturing the next electric car. Create the following deliverables (Word document) for your idea:
1. Project Charter -- Describe what you want to accomplish in detail. This can be anywhere from a single paragraph to a few paragraphs long. A one liner is NOT acceptable.
2. Plan your Project -- Create a Work Breakdown Structure for your project. We have talked about this before but do additional research on this topic. You can find more on this link (https://www.projectmanager.com/work-breakdown-structure) . You don't have to use any fancy tool for this (you can create something simple using Excel or use an existing template). I am primarily looking for thoroughness here. Make sure you include the important parts like subtasks, dependencies, project scheduling, task management, tracking, and reporting.
3. Monitor Progress -- Share some ideas on how you can report progress for your Project. There are several options here. I want you do some research and create a couple of mock reports for your Project. A hint is to think about Agile Projects and how they are measured/reported on.
4. Phases -- Describe what activities will need to happen in the Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitor & Control and Closing phases for your Project. This is more of a brain storming exercise. There is no wrong or right answer here. I just want you to practice the skills you have learned in this class.
5. Retro -- Do some research and document the top 5-10 reasons why IT Projects fail. As part of the Project completion phase, a lessons learned exercise is usually completed. Use your mock Project idea as an example and see which reasons you think may attribute towards the success or failure of your Project.
List any assumptions you will make for all of the above. Your documentation should be easy to understand for a new reader (the Grader in our case). You will have two weeks to complete this so don't rush. If you need further direction or have any questions, feel free to reach out to me in Canvas or email @ [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .
