Group Final Project (developed throughout the term and due in week 10 – (200 points)
Each student will have a hands-on opportunity to observe, help plan, manage, and execute an event on campus. Each group of three to four students will work on a certain aspect of event planning and prepare a paper summarizing the event management process and conducting a SWOT analysis on the individual team work, as well as to the overall event class work. Fifty percent of individual project grade will be assigned by the instructor and the other fifty percent of individual project grade will be assigned by group members.
*Graduate students are required to prepare a more extensive report with focus on research and analysis.
Please include the following sections in your paper (including all of the following headings):
Introduction – brief introduction of the event and paper objective (5 pts).
Design – objective/mission; theme; date and time; location considerations; committees (15 pts).
Budget – include a table with the budget and brief explanation of the key elements in the budget (15 pts).
Logistics – transportation of people and materials; set up (15 pts).
Publicity, Promotion and Marketing – how is the event marketed (15 pts).
Food and Beverage/Catering – type of food and beverage, organization and coordination (15 pts).
Technology, Risk Management and Entertainment (Panel Speakers) – technology used, permits, insurance, entertainment (15 pts).
HR, Volunteering– number of people, recruiting, tasks, etc. (15 pts).
Sustainability – what measures were taken to make the event more sustainable (15 pts).
SWOT Analysis – what were the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats for the whole event and briefly for your small group (40 pts).
Conclusion (5 pts).
Appendix - A summary/list of tasks/recommendations for future teams in the class (develop a list to help students who will be in the same group as you were) (10 pts)
Grammar, punctuation, organization, APA style (20 pts).
· APA format including title page and page numbers
· References or Works Cited page – use APA formatting for both in-text citations as well as in reference list at the end. Hanging indents are required for references.
· Five to eight pages double-spaced written content (not including title page or reference page)
· 1” margins using Times New Roman 12-point font
· At least five substantive sources required
· Introduction section - Introduction has clear thesis/topic statement that is supported throughout the body of the paper and summarized in the Conclusion.
· Organization - paper is easy to read due to clear organization. Each paragraph represents one controlling idea or subject. Ideally, the first sentence of each paragraph is a concise topic sentence, followed by evidence-based statements that support the opening sentence.
· Be sure that you include a caption for tables, graphs, or other visual materials, and specifically refer to the information presented in the text.
