Artist Name (if known), Title, Name of Culture, date. Medium (what it’s made of), dimensions H” x W” [x D”]. Name of Museum, City, State.
Formal Analysis
Insert your revised formal analysis here. Discuss all information as covered in the instructions for Part 1: Museum Analysis. Include any suggestions from the instructor or writing center that will make the analysis more accurate, detailed, and descriptive. Write in an academic voice, more like a textbook than a personal conversation. State your claims directly; there is no need to include phrases like “I think…” or “you can see…” This section of the paper should be based only on the visible characteristics of the artwork, and not its meaning, history, or purpose. This section should be about 600 words, but quality is more important than length.
Cultural Context
Write one or two paragraphs (about 150-200 words) assessing how your chosen artwork represents the culture/region you have studied this semester. Discuss this in terms of style, materials, subject matter, or other relevant characteristics. Does the work you analyzed look like other works from the culture? Is it made from similar materials? Does it have a similar purpose or meaning? Include citations for every piece of information you use, whether it’s quoted directly, or paraphrased in your own words. This section should be approximately 200 words, but quality is more important than length.
Summary
Assess the artwork in the context of its culture. Overall, is the work you analyzed a typical example of its culture’s art, or is it unusual? What are the major characteristics that support this conclusion? Answer in terms of materials, style, meaning, and purpose. When you are finished, select all the text and make sure it is in the same font and color throughout the document. Remove these instructional paragraphs, but leave the other headings and formatting. Save as a .docx or .pdf with your own file name, such as Lastname Final Draft.docx, and upload in eCampus by the deadline on the course calendar.

Replace these sources with the ones you used on the project, but keep the same title and keep this section on its own page. Use MLA citation format, not just URLs, and list your sources in alphabetical order (ignore “A” and “The” in titles). Use “Hanging Indents” under Format > Paragraph to indent all but the first line of each entry.
