Leaders are expected to portray leadership skills both in the office and outside the office. In this case, they guide, inspire, and influence a certain behavior and work of other people especially the junior workers. The changes in various sectors experienced in the world are a clear indication that leadership understanding will have to change in future generations such as 10 to 20 years.
Introduction
The changing environment in the space of leadership has been influenced much by the advancement of technology in various sectors in the world. This makes it necessary for the leaders to make some changes that may be accommodated in the new environment. The new generation of workers has shown the necessity to adapt to the change for the world to keep things moving forward. Leadership has many impacts on human beings as it forms the core of inspiration and influence on the surrounding community members with the zeal to achieve a common goal. The paper tends to answer on what leadership will look like in near future on an innovative and cutting edge?
Literature review
According to Hurduzeu, (Hurduzeu, 2015) the future holds digital leadership and transformation. This is due to the changes that people are making in the manner they communicate and make form their lives, organizations, and leaders in the cultural sector thus necessitating adaptation to the effectiveness in the internet era.
In that case, being a leader in the digital era suggests that I would therefore mean the understanding of the course of technology as one would also understand human resources, money, or even the law. Having a digital understanding of technology makes leaders make an informed decision that is effective to the demand of the organization and other institutions.
It is great to note that leadership skills are a developmental and continuous process for the leaders. Digital understanding may then be developed through the learning of the emerging trends and tools in the digital world as well as practicing the skills that will enable us to lead in the right direction.
However, adapting the digital leadership does not mean that the leaders turn to be technologists but the skills to recognize and understand the gaps as well as identifying the right people we can work with to make the projects and the organizations thrive.
The researcher state that skilled digital leadership is needed to transform organizations to suit the internet era through the process of building better capacities working ways and improved structures of organizations.
Therefore, leadership shortly will be focused on the curiosity about the audience and open learning on what should be operated differently to serve the public in a better way while yearning to achieve cultural organizations. Understanding what the public needs and how leadership would impact the needs of the people would influence what leadership does to be relevant and appealing to the public.
Leadership in the digital era suggests that leaders will have to recognize that the digital will not only be about the scale of flashy projects but also a transformative on the people's lives and manner of working. Consequently, leadership will be aimed at developing digital skills in the entire organization and not in a separate department.
Additionally, leadership in the future needs to integrate the digital processes and the technologies to shape and serve the future of business and the strategic plans. It also calls for the leaders to have acquired a budget and a mandate to embed and test the digital technology ad responsive techniques of working.
During the era of the internet and digital transformative leadership, needs leaders to begin all the programs and other projects with the application of user needs and research, restating on what to do and the manner to do it while responding to the feedback.
Notably, leadership in the digital era will be required to be a source of inspiration to the team members and the boards about the profits of digital transformation with tangible proof of the concept even when the experiments are successfully conducted at a small scale.
According to Crews, future leaders will be laid based on entrepreneurial skills that the leaders must possess for the betterment of their organizations (Crews, 2019). In this case, the researcher shows different leadership styles with several impacts that will be much involved in organizing and motivating a team of people to gain a common objective through optimization of risk, taking advantage of opportunities, and innovation.
Therefore, leaders will be expected to develop communication skills for the leaders to vividly articulate the plan and ideas while aiming to achieve a common goal. This kind of leadership style encourages communication between various levels in an organization.
Communication skills help in avoidance of ambiguity and generalizing hence limiting the occurrence of misunderstandings and conflict in the working stations as a result of poor communication. Besides, the researcher describes the future leaders to be led by a clear vision as it is a basis for the success of entrepreneurial space. In this case, a leader will be well informed of the place he wants to go to as well as the manner to reach the place. Such ideas are communicated to the team and work together to realize the reality of the vision.
Being an entrepreneurial world, future leadership would dictate the supportive style of leadership that helps in the realization of the importance of reactiveness and initiative. In this case, the leaders would offer the full support that the team would require to achieve the goals. The leaders are expected not to mistreat employees when they take a risk step which may misfire at the end, instead, they will be required to analyze the process that went amiss and correct the mistakes.
Through an entrepreneurial style of leadership, the future will dictate a learning environment in the organization hence encouraging others to improve the knowledge as well as widening the experience and handle different challenges. The kind of environment created helps would make the employees think beyond the normal situation thus making the entrepreneurial ship a united concern as a team.
Furthermore, the entrepreneurial style of leadership is expected to adopt an involvement technique where all the parties and the stakeholder take part in the success of the organization, unlike the traditional style where the management portrayed a situation f isolating the employees and other subordinate staff in the matter concerning the organization.
In this case, through the appropriate leadership, the organization holds a shared success where the team feels to have achieved the set goals thus avoiding the situation where leaders tend to take all the credit. The future style of leadership advocates for an acknowledgment of the contributions by others as they share accolades.
According to Sims, future leaders in 10 years to come will tend to be different than the current leadership that is portrayed (Stein, 2020). Though some core aspects of leadership remain to be the same, including the execution of the strategies and setting of the vision, the new type of leadership will help to guide on the way to go beyond.
The future leadership rides on a major role of artificial intelligence and technology in an attempt to shape the future of leaders in the next decade. This is viewed as one of the big trends that impact leadership. This is due to the evolving technology at a high pace.
In this case, artificial intelligence is known to have the power to completely transform the operations of the business and the work of power. However, the fear of uncertainty appears to be a new trend where the leaders are supposed to overdo the fears to realize the benefits of artificial intelligence rather than replacing their jobs.
The future leaderships need to have an understanding of artificial intelligence and technology to assist other people to realize the potential benefits and the impacts on their future jobs.
Also, future leadership is expected to follow a pace of change. This comes a time when the globe is taking into the design to accommodate technology. The research shows that the current events happen due to the drastic change that has occurred during the past years. Therefore, leadership experience changes from the style and the people involved in leadership.
For the organizations to successful, they must have a leader who constantly looks forward as they learn and embrace the change that occurs rather than avoiding it. Therefore, future leaders need to have an active mentality, adaptive to the change, and challenge the occurring situation at hand.
The leadership in the future is characterized by purpose and meaning. In this case, the employees are yearning to work in an organization that offers a chance to pursue a purpose and have a meaning. This is not comparable to the past scenarios when organizations only attracted a multitude of workers due to the huge salaries they offered.
The employees in the future would be in need to understand the purpose of the existence of a certain company as they would like to get involved in things like decision making, contribute to making difference in the world, and be part of the innovation drive.
Leadership shortly will be based on ethics and moral uprightness which is contrary to the past where leaders were controlled by the people with personal interests in an organization. The drive for transparency and ethics tends to shape the humbleness and authenticity of the leaders.
The research reveals that the organizations that have the foundation of ethics perform better in terms of finance with a high number of customers and satisfaction to the employees. The organizations are well lead by moral leaders. This makes people have the guts of demanding transparency as the leaders find it hard for them to hide on their titles.
According to AI Khajeh, future leadership holds a position for innovation, dynamic capabilities, and leadership (Al Khajeh, 2018). Therefore, shortly, the leadership is expected to change the view of things that happens in the world of business in organizations.
The innovation in different industries dictates the change in the leadership styles as the leaders are expected to embrace the technology and the innovative moves that are world is getting shaped too. The change in the mentality of handing different issues acts as the beginning of appreciating the existence of innovation space to assist in solving the challenges and problems encountering in various leadership areas such as decision making.
Besides, leadership is expected to earn a diverse view of issues, unlike the past and tradition where leadership was seen in a particular dimension. This would encourage the dynamic capability of leaders to revolve around issues and address them while fully informed.
Discussion
The landscape in business, companies, and corporations is in the course of changing though with some aspects that remain unchanged such as setting a vision and executing the strategy. The future leadership needs one to equip themselves with new knowledge and skills as well as the right mindset to show a diligent effect.
This is because the companies and organizations will look different and operate distinctively in a span of 10 to 20 years. This necessitates the change for every dimension starting from the teaching of leaders in preparation for the future.
The future holds some mindsets and skills that the leaders must gain in preparation for the future new style in leadership. One of the mindsets includes the global city where the world is said to be rapidly getting linked. Therefore, every organization has the capability for worldwide customers.
The global citizen mindset would thus refer to the thinking in an advanced manner while accepting diversity to different cultures, teams, and lead employees from various backgrounds. Leaders need also to understand how to get into and succeed in the new global markets.
The servant mindset in future leadership seems to be contrary to the old way of thoughts that leaders concentrate much on the top level of management in the company. This will mean practicing humility while serving other leaders in the organization, customers, the members of the team, and oneself.
The chef mindset in leadership brings in the sense of having the capability to hold different issues to conclude in an informed decision. Therefore, leaders show the ability to balance more essential issues in the environment of business, organizations, and corporations. This kind of mindset among leaders allows them to embrace technology and use it to solve challenges while still providing a sense of caring and purpose for the employees in the company.
Consequently, the explorer mindset is a crucial element that future leaders need to adopt. In this case, the leaders are capable of embracing the unknown that the future holds. This makes them open-minded and ready to absorb new ideas and take the course of change as the world experience changes.
Additionally, future leadership will be much dictated by the newly acquired skills that they must portray. The first one being coaching the fellow members in the organization and the public at large (Hassan, 2013). Some of the items in coaching skills will be motivational, inspirational, and engagement to the team as they show concern of care to every member of the organization.
The act of appreciating employees as individuals is a show of future leadership instead of viewing every employee as an ordinary worker. The leaders should develop people to be more successful compare to them.
The futurist skills that the future leaders need to possess ensure that organizations are not caught by surprise by what the future may bring forth. This is due to the sufficient preparedness by the leaders who aim to successful future of the organization (Kung, 2019). The world being in a radical change and unknown in various sectors, it calls for leadership with future visions and agenda.
Futurist leaders get concerned over many scenarios and make thoughts on the potential and possible solutions as a way of getting prepared for the future. They stay alert of the trending issues in the world hence remain to update.
The communication and listening skills among leaders dictate the future of leadership. This is a crucial element where leaders are expected to learn the art of passing information from their capacity across all the parties involved in an organization. Consequently, future leaders need to show a skill to listen and absorb the advice and the opinions of other people into the decision-making process.
Also, future leadership demands that individuals need to be well informed of the trending technology in the world. The latest innovations may be helpful to the organization in solving the current issues and challenges (Das, 2019). However, they need not be experts in the practical application of the same technology rather have a basic knowledge of its benefit to the field that he/she serves.
The act of embracing technology is part of the show of being an anticipating future leadership with the need to know how to leverage it to serve the organization in a better way. Fluency in the digital world is a necessity for future leadership. Having well and informed connection, as well as intelligence, is a clear indication of future leadership skills.
Conclusion
Leadership in various sectors is portrayed differently based on the interest of the individual group or the organization in general. The changes in the world especially in technology dictate the future of the leadership in companies. The challenges that the organizations face in the current state necessitate a change in the style of leadership to find the solutions. Therefore, leaders who anticipate taking their various institutions in the next 10 to 20 years need to possess attractive and matching skills such as communication skills, be updated to current and trending issues, and practice diversity in all aspects.
