Hi, Lynnette, I want to express my sincere gratitude for the faith in my prospective leadership capabilities that informed your decision to consider me to lead the diversity project in your medical facility, Lakeland Medical Clinic hospital. Diversity is vital in achieving health care objectives and essential to the sustainable growth of the Lakeland Medical Clinic hospital. Based on the email, the main issue that must be focused on is the lack of cultural competence by the staff. Besides, efficient and effective leadership is crucial in putting down a clear vision and efficient communication for the team. I understand that effective leadership enables a team to achieve its goals and deliver its duties.
The person that I would choose to lead this project is Martin Luther King. His leadership to end racism in United States inspired so many people. His leadership style includes transformational leadership style and collaborative leadership style. In addition, Martin Luther King was confident, passionate, and persistent. Like Martin Luther, I have effective communication skills, compassion, and ability to influence change. In addition, I will use transformational leadership like Martin Luther to influence the project team support the changes. The chief problem that has resulted in community members are diversity, workplace incivility, and poor work-life balance issues; the majority of the health care providers in Lakeland Medical Clinic hospital do not have efficient and effective patient-provider communication. Based on a study, services offered to minority groups can be enhanced by removing or reducing language and cultural barriers (Alzahrani, & Hasan, 2019). Health care providers in Lakeland Medical Clinic hospital cannot offer the service they were trained to provide if language and culture clash. Therefore, culturally competent care always depends on how a person's cultural differences can be solved comprehensively so that cultural differences cannot create conflict and misunderstanding. Similarly, I will employ delegation skills, integrity, competence, problem solving skills, and team-building skills. This will enable the teams to remain focused and objective towards the course of the project.
As the leader of the diversity project in Lakeland Medical Clinic hospital, I will insist on open communication and promote transparency in the group. I will ensure that all communication channels are kept open, and all members will be treated equally. This will automatically stimulate teamwork, collaboration, and trust in the team. Additionally, I will actively listen to all my group members and make sure that they freely express themselves. I will also encourage them to research new ideas and share them. I will promote collaboration among the teams by respecting perspectives, encouraging innovation, building trust, establishing goals and reducing conflicts.
How the diversity issue will be addressed?
The leadership style that I will utilize as the team leader is transformational. Based on my knowledge of leadership, transformational leadership always motivates employees by challenging them to look for ways to meet the needs of their clients who avoid coming to the hospital because of diversity issues. My leadership qualities include confidence, integrity, empathy, open communication, passion, humility, motivation, transparency, resilience, and active listening. Transformational leadership will help me work with my team to pinpoint the necessary change by motivating and encouraging. I will implement the change collaboratively with my group members.
As a transformational leader, I will change the state of affairs by ensuring that all health care providers consider their potential and experiences when providing services. They should also consider social interaction by accommodating other cultures when offering their services. I will set a good example when handling diversity issues so that my team can look up to me. Additionally, I will motivate my group members to create a supportive environment that encourages them to attain the set group objectives.
I will strive to utilize transformative leadership to inspire team spirit and motivate various teams to attain their goals within and without the workplace. The strength linked with the transformative leadership model is that it promotes cooperation and collaboration; hence the team works towards achieving a common set of goals and objectives. This is achievable through members' motivation to carry out their duties and responsibilities in a supportive and conducive environment.
Organizational conflicts can make a leader lose grasp and control of various teams due to a lack of focus towards a common vision. Transformative leadership style helps in reducing workplace conflicts, thus spearheading goal achievement and job satisfaction. As a transformative leader, I will maximize collaboration and technology, creating room for open communication. Similarly, I will maximize shared-decision making in the team to create a feeling of being valued within the work environment.
Delegation of duties and responsibilities helps to foster collaboration because it makes the teams develop a feeling that their contribution is vital (Eriksen & Cooper, 2018). For transformative leadership to be a reality, I will utilize verbal communication throughout the project, informing face-to-face communication. Verbal communication will help make sure points are conveyed clearly during the discussion. Tone variation during verbal communication will be varied to emphasize key points that require more attention from the teams.
When utilizing verbal communication, it is vital that active listening should be embraced. I will communicate with teams keenly and attentively to ensure that every individual's views and opinions are heard clearly without any interruption. Additionally, to ensure that collaboration is upheld throughout the project, I will ensure team members develop consistent cooperation through social platforms such as WhatsApp group chats, where members of the teams can express their opinions freely and openly.
I will ensure that every team will be allocated specific roles to better the project. I am certain that we will realize a positive outcome in the community once the collaborative work between leaders, I, and the healthcare providers is enhanced. Finally, I trust that the project will be successful and all group members will work collaboratively to achieve the group objectives.
