Directions: Choose two of the following three questions and write a 2-3 page essay for each. Make sure your answers are clear and well organized. This exam is your opportunity to show what you learned in the course. Be sure to reference any course materials you feel will contribute to your answer. The questions are as follows:

1. Provide an account of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his approach to Muslim/Hindu relations in South Asia. What figures in South Asian history would disagree with him? And why?

2. Explain the political situation in Myanmar and how it relates to the perspective of Islam in the modern world. How would you respond to Wiratu’s anti-Islamic rhetoric?

3. Give a description of the Islamic world during the middle ages. How is Islam different today? What philosophical movements changed the course of Islam in the 20th century? Essentially, your essay should compare and contrast Islam in these different periods of history.
