PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT: The overall purpose of this assignment is for you to have an opportunity to reflect on the topics covered in the course and their application to the field of Public Health. Therefore, you are required to complete a portfolio for this course as discussed. Basic Requirements for the Assignment:
• The assignment must be typed in MS Word
• The format of the Assignment must be in APA format and should include the following: o 1” margins, Times New Roman – 12 point font o Cover page o References (separate page) – at least 5 scholarly sources
§ Scholarly sources may include: • Textbooks • Peer-reviewed articles • Electronic sources published by government institutions
§ You must not use random websites for this assignment to justify your arguments Whenever you write a paper based on the research of someone else’s work, you must give credit to the original author. If you do not cite and document your sources carefully, you run the risk of plagiarism. In addition, when you document papers correctly, you provide others with a way to find the sources you have used. I recommend you visit the following web site (The OWL at Purdue) to learn how to properly cite your sources in the APA format: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
• While there is no page limit/maximum for the assignment, you should ensure that you are
thorough enough to satisfy the requirements of the assignment. A general gauge is about 4-5 double-spaced pages or at least 2 single spaced pages.
REQUIRED COMPONENTS: The following sections are required for your reflection paper. Please utilize headings and subheadings for each section in APA format.
1. Introduction Your introduction should inform the reader of the purpose of the assignment and include a brief discussion of the contents of your paper. Why is this paper important?
2. Body of your paper
APA in-text citations are required in this section.
• Discuss at least 5 key components discussed throughout the course that stick out to you. Each of these components should include at least one separate scholarly reference.
• Relate each of the 5 components above to the field of Public Health • What is your reaction to the field of Emergency Management? • What is your opinion of this required course as it relates to public health?
