3.17 FINAL ESSAY
Background
With this paper, you have the opportunity to better understand a group of students who are impacted by the broader topics of Belonging, Culturally Responsive Teaching, or Trauma Informed Practice. The goal is for you to learn more about an issue that you are passionate about, to hone your research, writing, and advocacy skills, and to formulate an argument that persuades and informs readers using ethos, pathos, and logos.
Task
Using the student-centered, inquiry based research process, formulate a research question. Your answer to the question will formulate a position, or an argument, about that topic. You will use the articles you have found
(at least three) and the teacher/student interviews you’ve conducted
(at least 1) to support your position.
Your argument essay will include:
An
introduction paragraph with a hook, some background information about your topic, and a thesis statement that clearly answers the question and states what you will write in the body of your essay.
Body Paragraphs that include topic sentences which explain what the paragraph is about, evidence from the texts you read that support your topic, and a closing statement that concludes the idea in the paragraph or transitions into the idea in the next paragraph.
A
conclusion paragraph that re-states the main points in your essay and makes final remarks on the importance of your topic or calls your reader to action.
