Independent Research

Topic: Geopolitical Issues.

Task: Research Essay.

Due Date: 17 May 2018. Penalties for late submission:

 20% deduction for 1 day.

 40% deduction for 2 days.

 60% deduction for 3 days.

 Zero from that point onwards. You must provide a Medical Report if you wish to apply for extra time in which to complete this assignment due to sickness. Weighting: 15%

Marks available: 20

Word Limit 1,500 words + / - 10%

Cheating and Plagiarism

If you cheat or have a high degree of unjustifiable similarity in your research essay a zero grade will be recorded.

Instructions

1. A hardcopy to be submitted during your usual class time on or before 17 May 2018.

2. You must also submit, through Turnitin, at least 4 days ahead of the due date so you have time to modify your essay if it receives a high similarity percentage.

3. Should you have a high percentage of unjustifiable similarity in your work, you must edit your work and re-submit it to Tutnitin. You may re-submit work as many times as needed.

4. If you update and re-submit to Turnitin you must also re-name your new file.

Following the submission of your research report you will respond in writing

to some questions about your research. This will be in class and under

examination conditions.

The purpose of this section is to establish whether or not your essay is all

your own work

This section will not form part of your assessment grade but it is a course

requirement that you satisfy this component.

Essay shows mastery of skills specific to the subject area. Intext referencing and bibliography are accurate and clear.

Highly Commended

 Understanding and control of content is very well demonstrated. Almost all areas are correctly answered – one or two may be less fully developed. Writing generally shows features of academic style – intext referencing and bibliography are correct. Writing style is clear and appropriate to the subject and genre; meaning is clear and language is accurate

Credit

 Content is mostly clear and well-explored. Most sections of the question have been addressed effectively but some need further development. Writing style is generally clear but may need refinement to improve clarity. Information is sufficient but may need to be better organised. Intext referencing and bibliography are present but may need further development.
