Instruction Notes: (HIGH) bonus points for following ALL instructions) – not doing so, costs 2 points

Some of the questions will require you to do some moderate to extensive research beyond the lecture material and readings of course material. When you have researched to provide a response, appropriately reference it within your answer. Please, not to do too much of ‘cut and paste’ from the Internet. If you must take something from a source, clearly identify it and highlight what you took and from where (it is okay to get things from internet, but a terrible thing not to identify it)

Question below:

A. True/False/Fill-in-the-blanks Highlight your response

1) T/F. Gantt chart can be used to visually see when major milestones are, when tasks have been completed, the projected length of a task and relationships among all project tasks.

2) T/F. All projects are temporary and undertaken to create a product, service, exceed customer expectation or result that is unique

3) T/F. The Delphi technique is a quick and economical way to estimate the duration and cost of project activities.

4) T/F. A requirements management plan should describe how requirements activities will be planned, tracked, and reported

B. Multiple Choices – Highlight true.

1. What is true for modern project management? Project managers need...

a) ... to have a strict standing in negotiating

b) ... to show experience in managing business partners

c) ... to be team players and facilitators instead of "bosses"

d) ... to be strongly linked to local traditions

2. Your project management team includes two external consultants each from a different company. You found that repeated conflicts between the two consultants already slow down project progress and jeopardize achievement of objectives. Which stage of team development can be difficult to overcome in such a situation?

a) Storming from Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing

b) Panic from Enthusiasm, Panic, Hope, Solution

c) Kickoff from Assignment, Kickoff, Training, Communicating

d) Frustration from Direction, Frustration, Cooperation, Collaboration

3. Resource Planning consists of:

People

Management

Equipment

Quantities

4. The Project QA includes:

a) Quality planning, quality assurance, and quality control make up the three of the five process of project quality management

b) QA in project management is about an overall process of improvements on a project and having them produced without errors

c) QA establishes standards for how project quality will be appraised, and checks the effectiveness of project operations against baselines to identify shortcomings or gaps in project processes.

d) All of the above

C. Short and Concise Questions. High points each for getting the central idea down, based on literary justification).

1. Select any single discussion thread out of Discussion Sessions 1-11. Review your selected thread to understand the theme of the discussion (among all participants), and then see if you can do a critical review of the central theme of the thread based on at least two current academic publications.

Note that the purpose of this question is not to summarize some articles, but to demonstrate your ability to critically review discussions (that we had) in terms of some larger issue (s) of some interest to the community of interest to highlight the significance of the issue. Do not need to do long write ups, just demonstrate your ability to understand issues in larger context of the discipline (of your course) and not to write long reviews of published material.

2. There is an ongoing project, at a federal government agency, requirements have been established and all the classical project related documentation is available (like plan, stakeholders, budget, schedule, and all).

Recently, the onsite project manager departed, since she felt that project is not likely to succeed and requirements not be met, and gave no specific reasons. You are known to be a super project manager and have been asked to take over the project, as a project manager / consultant, since you have just taken a course in project manager.

As a new project manager, what would be your action plan, going forward?

There is no right or wrong answer to this question, but your answer can be incomplete, miss understanding of the issues, lack analysis, or not be appropriately mapped to project management tools and techniques. The big idea behind this question is to see how well YOU can effectively apply what you have learned in this class (the lessons, discussions and practice of research) to address a real-world project manager challenge.

So, give it your best and show what you have learned, how well you understand the essence of the subject, and how prepared you are to apply your knowledge to solve problems. No simple or complex cut and paste are needed from Google, since this question is about YOU and what you know. Of course, references should be included.
