COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Operating characteristics, regulation, flows of funds, intermediation, major sectors of money and capital

markets and the institutions operating therein. Prerequisite: FINA 3300.

COURSE OBJECTIVES and LEARNING ENVIRONMENT:

This course is design for business students and finance major in particular. The main objectives of the

course is to provide you, participant, with the essential knowledge on the structure, function and role of the

financial system to financial markets and institutions – NYSE, the fed, banks etc. By the end of the course,

you should be able to explain the functions and benefits of money, financial intermediaries. Also, you

should be able to discuss the role regulations and inflation, derivatives, technology, interest rates and its

determinants.

Final Project

- Select an issue that discussed on G20 meeting or issues required to be discussed by NGOs (Non- governmental organization). Report the effort that has been made to address the issue.

- The issues discussed can be can be categized into finance track, sherpa track, engagement group issues.

- The G20, G-20 or Group of Twenty is an international forum for the top 20 economies in the world. The heads of the G20 nations and central bank governors meet annually to discuss the financial

stability and global economy (see source 1 and source 2).

- Finance track issues discussed at the latest meeting here. - Sherpa track issues discussed at the latest meeting here. - Engagement group represented at the latest meeting here. - This is a list of some resources that can be utilized: International Monetary Fund (IMF) , Bank for

International Settlements, G20 Information Centre, OECD, United Nations, Centre for
