Purpose

For better or worse, films can be a powerful way for a society to convey stories and ideas about people, places, and culture. The film review assignment provides students the opportunity to investigate the ways in which multicultural behaviors, practices, and ideas are conveyed through film (and through music if that plays an instrumental role in the film you choose). It also offers a visually appealing way to connect with the course material on different levels, and deepen an understanding of events, beliefs, and behaviors that will ultimately play a constructive role in professional practice.

Requirements

In this film review paper

1) choose a film that resonates with topics covered in one of the course modules; and

2) write a critical review of the film that analyzes the main themes, action, and takeaways, intelligently discusses the ways in which the film intersects with course topics, Like (OPPRESSION, Marginlization, The African American Experience, Past and Present and concludes with a summary that analyzes the value of the film to the social work profession.
