Film Journal Writing Prompt #2
Over the course of the semester we’ve discussed a number of filmmaking movements.
We talked about the Germans and their Expressionist movement in the years directly
following World War I. We talked about the Soviets and their belief that montage
(editing) was where the power of cinema came from. We also saw how the Italians and
the French radically changed their national cinemas in the years following World War II.
So the question is: which of these movements do you believe had the greatest impact on
cinema as a whole and why? Also, how do we see its impact still in the films of today?
