How to prepare and write an analysis on a film about racism?

Students you are assigned to work on a Research & Film Analysis project.

· Select the film you'd like to watch (list below)

· You must find ONE academic article about your topic (please see me if you’re having difficulty identifying a topic for a film) and ONE newspaper article about your topic. – DUE Friday 11/20/20 submit online.

· To research your academic source specifically go to the WCC academic databases.

· Write a summary or annotation for each source

· Create an APA citation for each source

· For this assignment, write the titles in APA format and a brief summary or annotation  (in your own words - paraphrase) of the article (general summary and how it relates to your research)

Example of an outline & rubric for a movie analysis

Introduction [10pts]

· Background information about the movie, plus the movie director and main characters

· Thesis statement and the reason for analysis

Plot Synopsis [10pts]

· Brief plot summary of the movie

· Present competent knowledge about the movie

Themes [15pts]

· Highlight the main theme of the movie

· The significance of the theme(s)

· Demonstrate connection and understanding between the movie themes, course topics and/or concepts and scholarly research

Visual Elements [5pts]

· Describe the visual appearance, impressive camera work, the angles, the shot the set designs like costumes, location, and lighting, etc.

Conclusion [10pts]

· Opinion about the movie

· How is the film important to the discussion of racism in the U.S?
