In this modern world, energy is the foundation of how everything works. In simple terms it is the capacity to do work and it is all around us taking on different forms such as renewable energy. This energy is derived from renewable sources; on a human timescale these sources are naturally refilled. In Saudi Arabia, they rely mostly on oil, making it their most important source. Studies have shown that renewable energy such as solar show promise for the future. This essay will argue why renewable will not satisfy Saudi Arabia’s demand in the future in order to increase financial and climate reasons.
The main reason that objected the idea of depending on renewable energy is that it does not offer enough money. Renewable energy does not make profits because the price for renewable energy is not fixed which may have an impact on the economy. Additionally, another economic reason that makes the country’s economy dependent on oil is that it is easily available unlike other renewable sources. It has higher energy density making it more efficient on generating energy. Oil provides higher density of energy compared to others and at a much cheaper rate because of it accessibility (Mings, 2019). This means that oil energy have more efficiency than any renewable energy.
Another reason that characterizes a challenge to renewable energy is that they are mainly dependent on the weather. Biomass and coal produces huge emissions of carbon which accounts for most of the pollution. Since some are weather dependent it makes it hard to rely on them since weather is changeable. For example, solar power is dependent on the sun and at times in winter the sky is cloudy or countries were the sun goes months without shining like the Norway. Research has publicized that the solar wind tower could provide electricity in fall days and in the hall year, only if it located in hot and dry area, however in winter it will decrease. This means that if the location of solar wind tower is not located well, it will not produce enough energy. Countries contingent on these dependent sources of energy should consider alternative sources of energy such as oil (Quick, 2014). This means that the country should not depend on the renewable energy and should instead focus on oil energy.
In conclusion, renewable energy may not prove as successful in sustaining Saudi Arabia’s future needs. However, its expensive costs and dependency proves its inferiority to the oil energy, not forgetting its adverse impact on the environment. Saudi Arabia oil is their main source of energy and it’s the basis of their economy being the leading country in oil production and export. So it should continue its oil investments to further its economy. Fortunately, oil expected to be adequately sufficient enough to meet global demands for years to come.
